Possibly. First off, you are responding to a VERY old article about comments made during an election. He will play hell getting that kind of tax proposal passed. People SAY a lot of things when faced with daunting change like this. Reality does not always coincide.

Tax rates in nearly all the European countries are high; Germany's tax rate is top 5 in the world. This is the most recent graph I could find in the very short amount of time I am going to spend on this; find the correlation you are inferring:

Tbh, I'm not sure how many players in Ligue 1 make that kind of dough. Most I'd imagine make just under or above that 1 million euro line (which, who knows if that will actually be where the tax line is drawn, or if it will even be 75%). The French league isn't exactly attracting top talent (except for PSG), it seems to develop its which is cheaper to do salary-wise. I think it's too soon to really be able to judge this until something actually happens.

Not mall that many and that's kind of the key when you consider how it could affect the entire league.

Also, I believe that the 75% percent rate is only on the amount of income that exceeds one million? So, it really isn't all that significant for clubs unless multiple salaries approach/exceed €2m.


I believe most clubs only have a few players over 2 million in salary, if that? Those may have to offer a bit higher gross salaries for their couple of star players than elsewhere but I don't think that's going to break the league, even though I'm sure the clubs hate it.


What it really could affect would be PSG if Financial Fair Play really shows it has teeth (questionable) and also Monaco's ability to stay in Ligue 1, since French clubs are already up in arms about their economic advantage with no income tax.


Of more concern for Ligue 1 is probably the ever increasing gap in TV revenue with the EPL and, to a lesser degree, Serie A.

If they are striking then I think things are getting pretty serious.

Also, Dan Karell doesn't realize that you don't need an apostrophe to make a word plural.
