The only one even close is basketball, but 90% of the players are physical freaks.

I love the fact that soccer doesn't revolve around players who are "beasts" and "freaks"

No doubt. Many players are great ahtletes, but most are technical and heady. It really is the white mans best game to follow.

I don't know what being white has to do with it.

Gotta love that the athletes look like everyday humans, games take less than two hours, and there are no commercials breaking up the action. The game is less dictated/ruined by TV than any other team sport I can think of. Also, the massive enjoyment of a goal is incredible!

Well Messi, Modric and Benayoun can play it at a high level. Add Iniesta, Xavi and Marco Marin.

I like the fluidity of the game. Aside from halftime, there really is no stoppage of play to reorganize, change strategy, etc. All of that stuff has to be done on the fly. There are no taking turns, no timeouts, no five minute warmups nine times a game, no overtimes (unless needed), no extreme advantage because of size/strength, I could go on and on here.

I also like the promotion/relegation struction in most professional leagues. Fans have something to cheer for whether they are at the top or bottom of their table. The tournament qualifications add excitement for middle of the table teams as well.

Soccer is more authentic than any other sport, if that makes sense. There's more of a sense of history and culture, and at the same time, the game is about constant motion and creativity.

Also, besides tennis, I don't think there is a sport that more clearly shows the boldness of intentions. You can take a lot of chances in soccer that you can't take in other sports. It's got the best of every sport -- the physicality of American football, the angles and movement of basketball, the individual brilliance of tennis, the excitement of the score and tradition of baseball -- minus all the shitty stuff (stop start nature of football/basketball, stop nature of baseball).

On top of all the other stuff mentioned here, I am not a big fan of all the patriotic BS that takes place before American football and baseball games. With club soccer there, is not much of that at all. I know it takes place in international soccer but I just try to ignore that like I try to ignore it in American football and baseball.

I was hoping "pitch" in SonofaPitch meant the playing surface.
