Ajax will always be a bigger European club than Arsenal or Tottenham.

that's emotion talking but if you win the soccer equivalent of the NFL most fans would consider you one

This is just going to be the European equivalent of the Carabao Cup

You’re right I don’t know the mechanisms.
Can you please give me a description of them?
This isn’t me agreeing with the league, I just don’t believe it’s going to be stopped so easy
I believe eventually the UK government will stand down
I truly don’t believe any of these threats that are being made against the leagues
And if they do follow through I will gladly eat my crow

If you think players and managers are bringing UCL knockout round intensity and preparation to every ESL match you're horribly mistaken.
Great point. Super League will be like college football after two loses. Who cares. Whereas CL has knockout rounds.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but following the sport for this long, I've never seen independent statements from the PM and Parliament that say "we are going to try to stop this" and a statement from Prince William, all within a day of an event. That is unprecedented, to be frank, and should give you an idea of the mood within the country.
Whether I'm right or wrong, I'm done with Arsenal regardless. The whole purpose of the Arsene Wenger project was made meaningless by this cash grab, and should make people question whether these clubs actually care about the sport. Instead of supporting the best manager Arsenal will ever have, and one of the only managers who averaged 2 points per game over the course of their career, they gave him no support and used him as a shield for the fans anger. If fiduciary principles could be cast aside so quickly, then maybe you shouldn't have insisted there was no money for signings, and that the club wanted a self-sustaining model while Wenger worked miracles with a small, injured squad to consistently get in the top four. The degree of dishonesty is disgusting, and I hope the punitive sanctions are so severe for all these clubs that no one involved in this will ever work in European football again.

I think they said there will be knockout rounds in the Super League too
20 teams in the SL, 8 teams make the knockout round

If the ESL is an existential threat to the grassroots game and English player development and future national team success, it must be destroyed by all means possible. Losing a shot at 2022 vs. losing ground in all subsequent isn't that hard a tradeoff to make.

In general this also isn't a situation when the government would be going against the wishes of those with the true vested interests (the supporters). Supporters across the pyramid - United, Liverpool, Southampton, Charlton Athletic, Bradford City - everyone's united in their disgust.

Okay so what are these mechanisms that you spoke about?
The government said they’d try and stop it?
Do I hope they do? Yes
Do I think they will? Nope

Work permit reform would by itself destroy the ability of these English clubs to compete in the ESL and would be under the direct purview of Parliament. They have so much at their disposal, that there is absolutely no way they survive this unscathed.

Thank you. Didn’t seee that.
Still don’t see how fans of the crappier teams in this will get excited about there club getting beat year in and year out by the same teams. At least in CL you can get some wins against smaller clubs and there is the Europa league.

Also, has any other government said anything?
Maybe the UK government won’t stand down.
I don’t see a World Cup without Messi and Ronaldo

Work permit reform. Ownership reform. A bill of attainder might require a specific royal mechanism, but is among the options available. There are so many options available that it is hard to narrow down what one they will use.

Ask gamecocks fans (like myself)
We’ve been packing the stands for years now.
Haha

That’s fair, I’ll eat my crow, but if this league still goes on, I don’t see this ban occurring
I think there’s more of a likely the league not happening than it happening and all these players being banned from International tournaments

Literally all of them. Macron made the first statement. The EU itself has offered a statement, and it will gladly grind this to dust if it needs to.

Ajax will always be a bigger European club than Arsenal or Tottenham.
Other leagues are like a de facto farm system for them.
This is happening because the smaller opponents near the bottom of the bigger leagues aren’t playing compelling enough games against the top teams. I saw Manchester City play Burnley recently and it was a joke... Even City probably gets tired of 80% possession sometimes

Got it.
Still think it’s all talk, and if this does continue they’ll be properly compensated to stand down
