I was initially down on Germany's performance but I'm feeling better about it now. Portugal parked the bus and tried to counter and Germany did what they needed to.

I don't think they looked bad at all, but they didn't exactly look like a dominant team either.
As much as Portugal tried to defend and counter, they still were unlucky not to get a goal at some point.

They did for long periods of time. They defended and played outlet passes to Ronaldo or Nani. Schweinsteiger played deep to try to deter those passes and that really altered the game plan.
They also loaded up the center of the field so Muller and Podolski stayed wide and played in crosses and let Ozil do all the lateral movement.
Germany will look much different against Netherlands because the Dutch are going to attack

Yeah, Schweinsteiger was someone I felt should have been more involved in the game. Podolski had an off game unfortunately, he better step it up for Arsenal

I wish I was watching this game on my computer so I could get a screen cap. At any point in time, Spain's deepest player is playing 15 yards infront of Italy's defenders.

What is Spain doing out there? Their amazing midfield is losing out on possession. And no one out there is really a threat to latch on to a pass and strike a shot.
Really odd strategy having Alonzo play defensive mid, no striker and Cesc up top instead.
Granted, Italy are always amazing on the defensive end. But Italy's midfield is doing a great job today.

That's one of the reasons Schweiny played so deep, the fear of Ronaldo getting the ball in space. Boateng pressed so far up the field to get right in CRon's feet and it worked well.

I think it's been pretty even. Spain have had the same number of chances (and another taken away BC of a bad offsides call). Italy's best chance came from a dive.
