After the World Cup the midfielder will likely say goodbye to Barcelona to join the New York Red Bulls in the MLS. Xavi still has a few years left on his contract at Barcelona, but the bluagrana won’t stand in his way and will let him do as he wishes. The parties involved are negotiating, the deal isn’t closed but is off to a good start. A Barcelona legend could be leaving for New York and the MLS.

This still seems like some drug-induced fantasy concocted by the MLS/NYRB. It makes absolutely no sense for Xavi to want to leave Barca to go to the NYRB. It goes against everything that I've heard about him. Really, really weird.

He is going to be 34 in 2 weeks. I can see the grind of CL/La Liga/Spain NT getting old after a while, even if you win everything.

The MLS is making some serious splashes. Wow.

That makes sense considering he will likely retire from International play after the WC. From what I've read, Henry has played a big part in convincing Xavi. (Henry did the exact same thing after the 2010 WC).
It will be a pretty big get for the MLS because, despite his age, he is still one of the top 10 players in the world.

If this was 3 years ago sure. But on the back end of his career for a couple year just for one last pack check.
But it will be nice to watch him ball on people in MLS

Xavi will be good until he's 40.

The Red Bulls can underachieve some more with another star player.

How many decent 22 year old Colombians or argentines could you get for one over the hill 34 year old spaniard?
That sucks.
That sucks.

You guys are seriously underestimating Xavi's talent and star power, even at this age.
Xavi would mean so much more for the league than grabbing a few more Fredy Monteros. All the things MLS struggles with at the moment: lack of stars, TV ratings, international respect...things that have definitely improved since the Beckham move but are still areas of concern...would be addressed if one of the Top 10 players on the planet left one of the best clubs on the planet with time still left on his contract to play in MLS.

Wasn't there talk about Eto'o going to MLS as well? 2015 will be interesting because I figure NYCFC will be trying to get a couple of big name guys.

It's a matter of time. I think it would be good to do some scouting in South America and pick up a few guys before European clubs get to them.

Unrealistic at this point. MLS is still a teenaged league competing against ones that have been established 100+ years in soccer-crazed countries.
A Xavi move would be great for the league, just like Deuce and Baby Bradley coming back to the States.
