Soccer nations with big quality differences between domestic league and national team

Which country has the biggest difference in terms of skill between their domestic league and national team. Uraguay is the first team to mind. Domestic league is probably below average but at times can produce an elite national team. Argentina seems to be the only elite team with an above average league.

Wales has been in a few international tournaments recently yet you rarely if ever hear about the welsh league. (Total Network Solutions TYFYS) Same with Ireland. If you follow Copa Libertadores you’ll become familiar with more of the South American leagues.

Wales is a good mention. I forgot about Colombia as well. Elite teams with a shite league.

Yea there are some good teams from each league, even smaller nations like Peru and Bolivia.
From Colombia you have Once Caldas, Deportivo Cali, Independiente Medellin, America de Cali
Chile’s Universidad Catolica and Colo Colo once had an American goalkeeper in the 2000s. Jonny Walker.

England
Yes they’re pretty good but the Premier League should be making them juggernauts. Instead it’s been France, Germany, and Spain that have dominated international competitions

France is who I think of. You have PSG and then nothing else in the League One, but they are always a favorite in any competition they play in.
Welsh domestic teams are part of EFL /EPL right? Cardiff plays in the EPL when they can get it together so not sure Wales has a true domestic league that is driving their national team.

Wales has a domestic league. But to give you an indication of where it would fall if it were in the English system, Wrexham has been loaning out young players who can't get on the field with them to teams in the 1st and 2nd tier in Wales. This has been while Wrexham has been in the 4th and 5th tier in the English system.
There are 4 or 5 Welsh teams playing in the English system. There is one English team in the Welsh system (S' TNS New Saints).

Wales has Swansea, Cardiff, Wrexham, and Newport County in the EFL. They also have a Welsh football league that the other domestic teams play in that is pretty poor

Putting in my vote for Japan and the J-League. Seems like Japan always has a decent showing in international tournaments. Nagoya Grampus and Wenger TYFYS.

Nigeria. Cameroon Ivory Coast. Ghana. Morocco.
This is a fun topic. Another good topic would be talent producing nations and discrepancies in national team.
Not sure if someone should start a separate thread
George Weah
Mo Salah

Imagine thinking a top 5 league isn’t quality

So is MLS in the Top 13 leagues in the world? FIFA has the USMNT ranked 13th.
