it should have been a red card even if he had not been down for so long.
Juninho kicked that directly at his face for no good reason.
and TBH the announcer really has no idea how bad it hurt to get hit when he was completely unprepared and sounds like a tool trying to call it a flop.

I totally didn't realize that NYRB's Juninho was Juninho Pernambucano

Well, the NBA just had to institute an incremental fine system for flopping, so...

Any player in any sport would have done the same thing. Incredibly dumb move by the Red Bull player.

IDGAF if it was embellished or not.
J still should have gotten a red for that.

okay the card isn't the issue here, and as a soccer player I agree it was outlandish and deserving of a card (yellow MAYBE red)… My concern was with americans that think soccer players are pussies and flop too much. A goalie getting hit in the arm with a ball kicked at him with the outside of some nerds foot and then coming close to death? Ridiculous.

It is a textbook red card.

nothing is "textbook" in a subjective call. What if he lightly chipped it and it bumped into his arm? now slowly speed up how hard he kicked it, at what speed does it become a red card?? It's subjective and you can't say it's textbook, you're also missing the point of the OP

He committed a foul that would result in a direct free kick and used disproportionate and unnecessary force.
