Soccer in America: not popular because of ties?

It's a thought I've had. I enjoy watching soccer when it's on. Played for most of my life. I don't watch much on tv, but I'll watch it when it's on.
But one thing I think that keeps soccer from really taking off in America is that the games can regularly end in ties.
There isn't a popular American sport I can think of that has games in the regular season that end in ties.
Football-overtime
Baseball-extra innings
Basketball-overtime
Even hockey-OT and shoot out
I know for me personally if I'm going to watch a sporting event for an hour and a half, there better be some kind of resolution. It's frustrating for something to go on that long and not have a definitive end.
Maybe it's just me.
Just a random flow of consciousness.

Soccer doesn't need to change a thing to be popular in America. It's already well on its way.

I love that a soccer game will take almost exactly two hours, from first whistle to last.
The 2:30 PM CBS game? That bitch can still be on at 7:30.

It just isn't a traditional sport in America and is looked down upon because of that. Once you get into football/basketball/America's "game" soccer becomes very very different.
But yea ties probably play a part. Along with the change of pace, diving, perception that it is a "pussy" sport, etc

I would argue it is popular or at least getting close to being popular. EPL games shown on network television have to count for something.

Low-scoring, not as much contact as hockey/football, ties, and it's extremely popular with the rest of the world. Majority of American's ego doesn't allow it to be apart of the sporting culture here (however, it is transitioning and will not stay like this for much longer)

NHL games ended in ties for a long time before they started doing ot and shootouts if necessary.
Something I don't get is why people think its a girly sport. I used to think that too but that was such a long time ago I've forgotten why I thought that way. It's just a physical a sport as basketball if not more. Maybe it's because of the diving but flopping is a big part of basketball as well.

No, I think that teams deserve to be punished for not winning in regulation (though, hockey does this, iirc), and I don't really feel as if that is a big hang up for most people. It is also easier to appreciate when you understand how devastating a draw can be to a team's standing w/i the league.
I honestly couldn't imagine watching soccer if all ties went to extra time, Saturdays and Sundays would be insane. Part of the beauty of the game is that I generally know when it'll be over

It's actually a surprise to me that baseball is as popular as it is in America. I know it's "america's Pastime" which is why it's lasted so long. But almost all the arguments you make for soccer being boring you can make for baseball

Baseball is god awful to watch. I liked watching LSU baseball when I was 8. Now I think all BB is a snorefest.

Georgia Tech would've been the sole national football champions in 1990 (as opposed to a split title) if not for a tie. College football was just as popular back then as it is now.
