New position. Reports directly to Matt Crocker and has influence on all national team matters, male and female, to include hiring of a new MNT manager.

Working on finding a link…

ETA: Jeff Carlisle tweeted it.

Continuing the trend of hiring former players who have no idea how to run a business. Lovely.

What business is he running?

It’s a soccer development position and a position that he has held overseas and in MLS.

He’s involved in hiring a new manager. Involved in fundraising. Probably has P&L responsibilities. He’s not just watching soccer all day and making notes in his office.

That’s like saying Scott Woodward isn’t running a business. He’s just in a scholarship athlete development role.

Wait... so you think no former players should hold any front office position within the USSF?

Front office with no previous experience? Yeah, they probably shouldn’t hold that role. Go do it in MLS for a little while and figure it out there. Then work your way up into US Soccer.

I’m far from someone who constantly rails on the USSF for everything, but Onyewu’s experience is what, Orlando City B and a team that got relegated from the Belgian second division?

That’s an awful resume.

Your expectations for US Soccer leadership suck if the only experience needed is a cap.
