Professional ID Camps

Thinking about bringing my son to this ID camp next month to expose him to some UEFA coaching.
GIS site
I wish it fell at a different time since he just played his last U11 tournament, went through tryouts, now goes on a two month break.
I guess it's either this route or the Olympic Development Program route to 'get discovered', but he's a year too young for that camp.

Don't do ODP, it's a huge waste of time

I see that we missed tryouts, held in Februray in Jackson, so ODP is off the boards for this year.
No big deal, this ID camp should be cool.

Why is ODP a waste of time? Honestly curious as I have a son that is one of the best in his age group (U10).

All I see is money grab
pay to play strikes again

Very political, the best players don't make the team. Also, in my experience, the coaching was pretty poor. I played with better players and better coaching at the Club level

ODP was an out dated model back in the 90s
its a shite structure that favors kids who have some talent but parents with deep pockets.

Discovered this one out the hard way a few years back.
example: Coach had a Jesuit connection, team was comprised of 95% Jesuit kids and maybe 1 or 2 St. Paul's /Brother Martin kids.

Y'all play in the NOLA area? We've played some 07 teams.

Thanks guys. What's the best avenue for a Baton Rouge kid with potential?

Not Baton Rouge specific, but in general: good club team (good coaching). load up on summer camps, find some colleges putting them on. Good coaching at those college camps, and typically fun.
Also just let the kid have fun. If he practices 24/7/365 he'll burn out, no matter how much he loves soccer

Try out for BRSC. Their black team is one of the most well coached teams we've played.
He play on a gold bracket team?
