This thread is a whole lot of excited people and two folks arguing with all of them. Wasted effort IMO, not worth even engaging them, as no matter what MLS does it will always be second rate in their eyes.

lol the DP's in MLS still make what mid tier club money for an average player. 3 million pounds and big bucks in europe for these guys.

Bradley wasn't making elite money. He was at around 800k euros. Dempsey was maxing out at 3 million USD in England, and he likely was't going to go higher. I don't doubt Bradley will be making much more money in the MLS where he instantly becomes the best CM in the league.

I still think we are a generation away from producing players that can play on the top teams of Europe truth be told. All the nations that started taking the sport seriously around the 90's, like South Korea, Japan, and Australia, will struggle to place players on big teams, as those teams are still a generation behind on tactics, as we are as well.

ETA: Just saw that salary considerations were already mentioned.

ETA #2: just googled and found Dempsey was on twice that at Spurs. Damnit.

all suckedddddddddddddddd in europe or didn't play in a high level league for more than year and are MLS quality players that don't even get a snif from Klins

Jay DeMerit captained Watford in the EPL.

35 year old Jay DeMerit (probably) can't bring the goods, but 2008-2009ish Jay DeMerit was a damned good player.

Bobby Convey was critical to Reading getting promoted.

Americans coming back and playing in the MLS is going to be amazing for the league, especially if those Americans go into coaching and bring European knowledge and expertise to the youth level.

There is a big desire for there to be an American superstar to carry the sport on its back toward becoming the premier sport in the USA, but we are at least two generations away from producing a player of that caliber, and probably more. We have to deal with the fact that the sport growing at a slow and steady rate is much better than if we have a player on a big team in Europe.

Some good points. As for Toronto didn't they hire the guy that was the GM at LA and helped make the Beckham deal?

The goal should be that the American soccer watching populations prefers watching MLS rather than games from overseas.

There are two people on this thread that would vehemently agrue otherwise.

Goal should be for America's best players to have the ability to play regularly in the world's top leagues.

Maybe one day that will be the MLS, but that is not the case right now.

It's one of the ways, but it takes a lot more, specifically with the youth system.
