it really does seem like the english youth system is lacking outside of west ham and the big clubs with good youth systems are scouting and bringing in more players from outside of england at young ages

Crewe Alexandra is another example of a good English youth system, even if they're in League Two.

Germany has really taken advantage of the immigration into their country. A lot of Turks and Eastern Europeans are living in Germany and they are getting them in the youth system early on.

Ok, I'll explain my "fandom", I guess.
I actually got into City in 2009, so I guess I'm more of a City fan than anything. Last summer, we finally got FSC so I was able to watch more games, and I also found myself pulling for Chelsea quite a bit as well. I'm pretty new probably compared to most of you other soccer dudes, so maybe I'm still learning the ropes?

OK you guys, I think I've calmed down from my City title meltdown.
That being said, I am a huge believer in youth systems, but I also think it's fair to say that titles cannot be won by youth systems alone anymore. Southampton has done a good job of developing wing players in recent years (in particular Gareth Bale & Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain) but wasn't able to retain them. You HAVE to spend money, and possibly big money to win titles. And credit goes to City for spending on a team that was able to mesh and win a championship.
Who knows, part of my anger could be that my club spent 36M on Stuart Downing & Jordan Henderson.

Southampton have an amazing youth system as well. Everton and 'Pool don't do too badly. Man U has a good youth system, but it's really hard for young players to break into the first team.

They are also oddly silent on Bayern too, but Bayern's youth system has to be second only to Barca's. Having a good youth system means you are able to spend more than you otherwise would have been able.

Bayern isn't afraid to spend on a player they want. Gomez, Robben, Ribery, Neuer but i would say those purchases have worked out.
The Luiz Gustavo signing is starting to look great as well. Most Bayern fans think the club doesn't spend enough but everything is decided by the board and for the most part they get it right.
I'm still pissed about Hummels.

That's another good point. Hell, France became a superpower in world soccer because of immigration. England should have an advantage because of their links with the Caribbean, but they have such a shitty national set-up, and it probably won't improve for the next ten years or so.
