Portugal's kits look like dark pink throw up.

Ireland is so bad it's hard to tell how good Portugal actually is.

Why couldn't we get ONE team like Ireland in our group??

We would boss those green bitches.

He hasn't played a whole lot over the past couple of months. It's probably not a good thing that he's healthy enough to play prior to the World Cup. Regardless, he'll be a pain in the arse whether he's playing well or not.

Portugal had an insane goal called back for offside. 5-1 complete domination.

I don´t know about that, but I hope more than half this board watched this match (more than half this board thinks Portugal sucks, and they´re Cristiano plus 10 others).

They are a very good side.

They have talent, but they looked like shite against Mexico w/o Cristiano. Granted, Mexico >>> Keane-less Ireland, but still, that was a different team tonight.

After Ireland got their goal and they subbed in Keane, Ireland looked sharper and were making some chances but they just couldn't finish it.

And Portugal dominated and they looked like they were playing at 50%. 5 goals (6 really) and CRon scored none of them.

Portugal looks confident and loose. I think the key for the USMNT will be to get up on Portugal quick and make them play from behind.

Because if we let them get up on us, it's going to be a bad time.

Damn, we got a terrible, terrible draw.

Yeah, that was probably the most disconcerting thing that I saw tonight

Yeah, they're similar to Italy among some other sides that often look bad in friendlies and qualifying matches against lesser sides but you just can't discount all the quality they have up and down the roster on a big stage.

Ireland is a bit better than people are crediting. They were getting exposed defensively in transition but some of that was Portugal being really sharp in getting through their attempt at high pressure and forward quickly.

They can certainly be beaten easier than, say, Germany, but, as I've said here for a while, the USMNT will deserve a hell of a lot of praise if they can pull it off.

Portugal is quick and technical. As you said, they tend to ´nut up´in competition, and especially against good sides.

Historically, they´re prone to overconfidence, but I don´t think they´ll take the USA lightly.

Jozy´s going to have to bash some CBs all night long, and wear his arse out running and closing initial gaps when there´s a transition of play deep in Portugal´s end.

Key will be Jones staying in position and being vigilant of the lanes, Bradley not tiring, and above all, Dempsey is going to have to show us he is the man (which IMO he still has yet to do).

Yeah, those are good points about Jones and Bradley.

I'm guessing that the Ireland friendly was designed a bit to prepare for the US where Portugal expects a somewhat similar pressing to win the ball in transition.

It's worrysome how well they handled it but I suppose that Ireland was missing a couple of midfielders that looked better against Italy pressing.

If Dempsey gets in a funk and is a non factor, it will be a long night.

Right now, I think that half of the problem is that Bento has understandably been screwing around with their absences. The other half might be due to some of the reputations their players carry that might not be truly representative of their abilities, e.g., Pepe's.

I think Pepe will be one of the better CBs in the WC.

Bento´s not going play him at mid, is he?
