I feel like against Mexico, we need to pack the midfield, hence going back to the 4-2-3-1 that we ran a lot last cycle.

The only "outside the box" thing here is Danny Williams at the 8 and that's only because I think he is the closest thing we have to the Jermaine Jones "destroyer" role. Now, if Jones is somehow fully fit in a month, put him in over Williams.

Other than that, it's the usual suspects. I don't think any of the new faces in this camp really showed anything to challenge the first team, however Gooch looked good in a limited role, and I think he should get a spot in the 23.

Not as high on Green's play... I do respect that he was really the only player that wanted to actually take players on in this camp, but it was the same thing every time, dribble down the left, step over, step over, cut in, shoot, rinse, repeat. That'll work against Cuba and New Zealand, not sure about it's effectiveness against Mexico & CR.

As for Kljestan, he was very hit or miss tonight, partly due to the bad distribution from the back and Kitchen/Bradley. But when SK did "hit", it was a thing of beauty. He's a true #10 in this reinvented form and he makes us better. He better start, Jurgy.

this is completely off topic but i've been thinking about it a good bit lately. with how good Pulisic is on the ball, does he eventually move inside? I feel like in 5 years or so all of his natural strengths(at least in terms of what's beneficial for the national team) point to him being a 10

if this has been discussed ad nauseam forgive me. I don't keep up as well as i should

Yeah, he's definitely our future 10 if all goes according to plan.

I'm embarrassed at how exciting that is

on topic though, I don't see any scenario where Jurgen can justify keeping Sacha out of the 11 in Columbus.

He's been solid and I think he deserves to at least make the team with his recent impact. Not sure how you can say you aren't as high on him currently. If I had to guess you're likely just not high on him in general as a prospect of any sort.

This is the best stretch over a few months he's played, probably ever.

Well considering that he wasn't playing at all in previous months, that statement would be true whether he scored two goals or picked up two red cards.

As for my prospects for him, he could be a solid winger and/or second striker for us in upcoming cycles, but his growth as a player has been direly stunted by his recent missteps (Hamburg loan, not going on loan this past window).

green was arguably our best payer over the course of these last two meaningless friendlies

I am unsure if I want Cameron in the midfield or the defense. He is so good as a defensive midfielder and I'm not confident in Jones, Kitchen, or Williams right now to play that role. If Cameron plays in midfield, who plays in defense? That's the question. Gonzo is probably the answer and I know some have mixed feelings about him on this board.

Yes, he may move inside in the next 2 years.

outside of Jr. featuring, i really dont feel like we can afford to leave bobby wood on the bench. hes one of the most aggressive players we have, and no doubt hes used to dropping back and defending with hamburg.

I wish i had more confidence in Williams because we certainly could use a little pace and strength in midfield, but i dont think he brings enough to justify leaving Wood off.

Not saying that he wasn't, but the things that he was successful with against NZ and Cuba won't necessarily translate to better teams, IMO.

Right, but I'm clogging the midfield with a 4-2-3-1, so it's either him or Jozy. Right now, Jozy is our better option of the two.

This is it I think. Wood and Pulisic will help defensively when needed and Wood gives Jozy the pairing up top he needs as well.

Because I'm not confident in Altidore anymore. I guess I could put Green, and probably would have been the better choice, but was thinking about his back heel to Orozco. I think if we could have two big strikers might benefit us.
Obviously his injuries would worry me, but like I said earlier I'm not confident Altidore is one of our best strikers anymore.

But you're confident in a guy who has missed the last 2 years due to multiple ACL surgeries?

ETA: Also, how do you not have Cameron on the field, at all?
