I think it definitely has more value for the non-traditional soccer power nations.

I don't think that's even debatable.

Personally, I think it would do more for the American soccer psyche to win the in the Olympics than the Gold Cup. People know what the Olympics are, people don’t know shite about the Gold Cup or Nations League.

The gold cup is a whole different discussion

It completely devalues it’s worth by being held every two years

Isn’t the African cup of nations every two years? I agree it should be every four.

Thanks for proving the point that having it every two years is just a money grab

when i talked about devalue i was not talking about revenue but the importance of the tournament.

Considering it's >3x more than what they get without it, it's a pretty important money grab that none of the members are quick to rid themselves of. It pretty much funds the entire confederation.

So until someone comes up with a way to make up $100m, complaining about it is pretty useless. A few people may care more about it if it was only every 4 years, but it (or something that brings the same revenue) is clearly necessary.

If there is a soccer competition, I want the US to win. Winning builds upon itself. It elevates the program, builds internal competition between the players and coaches, and adds to the foundation already constructed!

Having it every two years adds an extra summer on the players and now with the nations league it’s getting out of hand

It’s dumb it’s every two years but is done bc the federation just wants the cash

Everyone agrees that we want to win any competition any US team is in

But the Olympics isn’t an ideal situation in the football competition world

With the talent we have now, if we qualify we should crush it. Bc the level of competition isn’t that high

But on that note our top level guys at those ages would be better off training with their European clubs in preseason due to the level of play and the MLS kids should be playing games with their clubs instead of dropping down a level in play.

That’s why I thin it would be great for the college kids to see if we have any diamonds in the rough. Bc college soccer as a whole has a ton of issues.

As for the gold cup, there is a reason why the federation added that one off final between the two separate winners if needed

It’s bc the tournament that wasn’t for a bid to go to the confederations cup, US and Mexico would usually send scrub squads and it would drop interest and money brought to the tournament

Mexico did one time send a really good squad and beat the living frick out of our basically all MLS team in the final

I know it’s club competition but I don’t feel champion League is devalued because it’s played every year.
In addition to money it also adds game time to players in meaningful games giving them experience with players that they don’t play with on a regular bases

Side not Wenger is calling for WC every two years and may only be a matter of time for the prospect off all that money every 2 years instead of every 4.

And complaining about people’s enjoyment of non-major tournaments is like complaining to the guy that enjoys he’s towns non -EPL team or minor league baseball team.

‘Dude you live in Blackpool and support the The Tangerines. You know no one takes league one serious man. Why don’t you support Liverpool or Everton.
Or dude you live in Billings MT and support the Mustangs. Who cares. Root for the Mariners’

The chances of a kid playing in minor league ball making the pros is like a kid on Olympic team playing in WC.

Nothing wrong with rooting for local or national team no matter what computing is. Friendlies are fun and sometimes only opportunities for a lot of people to ever catch a live game.

Nothing wrong with rooting for teams based on popularity and sucess

I love how on Bruno Fernandez’ Wikipedia page, the action picture under his ‘International career’. Is captioned

‘Fernandes represented Portugal in the 2016 Summer Olympics.[59] He started every game, as the team reached the quarter-finals’

Sorry don’t know how to share it.

This is my biggest gripe with it. They need the rest. But concacaf wants the money so it will never change.

Interesting point but here is some food for thought

Bruno was a late bloomer at that time he was wasting in away in Italy

The top young players for Portugal got into the Euro senior squad

Also that summer was the under 19 euros

Compare that Olympic squad with the under 19 squad if you get a chance
