The most frustrating thing Can does, is he goes on these brilliant, powerful runs and then never gets rid of the ball in time... always turns it over...
IMO, he was very frustrating the first part of the season... but he's seemed to have settled into this current role.. and again, its his first season playing MF exclusively, in a top senior team..

Can is in my top 3 favorite players on this squad.
1a/1b- Bob/Coutinho
3- Can

I agree about Can. He's made big strides this year, and you can see the qualities. Sure, he's still got a lot of room to improve, but he does things that no one else on our squad can do.
I think you look at Can, Bobby and Phil as the building blocks for the squad. Try to find pieces that compliment them. We desperately need some pace up top (something Studge hasn't really shown yet) so that Cou can start showing some more passing magic. That will also open up things for Firmino.
I look at squads like West Ham or Leicester and how they are built to all work together into one specific attacking or defending picture. And then you look at what Rodgers built and its a fricking mess of shite just thrown together. Multiple people that do the same things and a complete lack of several vital abilities. Likely the most unbalanced squad in the top 10 teams in the EPL.

yeah, that is really concerning about Studge rigt now... even if he does stay healthy, his burst and stamina aren't there right now... I really hope its not gone for good!

the sign of a 22 year old pup....
He will learn in time.
Remember Lucas when he first got to the club? Can has 2x as much potential IMO.

quote:I didn't really notice it until our last match where there were a few balls that seemed like he would've gotten to in the past, and either he just didn't go full throttle or he didn't have the extra gear. I really hope it's him being cautious. He definitely adds something extra to our buildup play and trying to break teams down, but no doubt his best attribute was to be able to stretch the field and get in behind defenders.

I agree that his being on the pitch definitely helps. And you saw that he still has the quick feet and craftiness (which is evidenced by his great goal this week). My concern is that, how long before teams figure out his pace isn't what it once was and start closing down on him? I think his effectivness will only get worse unless he's able to start bursting again. Its like he's gone from 26 years old to 31 in a months (of actual playing games) time, withouth the slow burn of learning how to play with less dimishing abilities.
Still a threat. Still good to have on the field. But maybe not the option 1 (even without the injury prone-ness) that we would need.
It may all be hogwash and he's purpossely holding back (or being told to hold back), but I think he's the type where he's not able to hold back even if he wanted too. Too competetive to half as it.
I do think Studge feels pressure to justify his return. He's made a lot of bad deciions to take shot sfrom bad angles when a easy cross for a good scoring opportunity would ahve been a better move.

Benteke could have buried the game and as usual he chokes away a sure goal.
It wasnt just him though who failed to finish gold opportunities. We should have had 5 in the first half. Welsh Xavi was less Xavi and more Joe. The super late offsides call that negated his goal was rather crappy. I agree Teke should have scored that, but we had more opportunities than that which we squandered away. Damn shame. Went from 3 points to 1 to nothing. The more I recap it, the more aggravated I get with it.

I think most improved are Can, Lallana, Lovren, and Origi. All 4 have come along nicely and with their young ages, should only develop even more.

I know it won't happen if he's healthy, but I really wish Hodgson would leave him out of the Euros to give him more time to recover in the offseason and get a true preseason training in with Klopp. That would do wonders I think for getting him back closer to full fitness instead of just fit enough to hobble out on the field
I do think Studge feels pressure to justify his return

And another thing - how the hell is Wanyama still at S'oton? I know a lot of people have talked about him and a lot of his teammates have been cherry picked, but he still shines most matches I watch him.
As big of an impact Mané had on the match, I think Wanyama matched him because he brought their midfield to another level to help control things.

I hope I'm not jinxing it, but anyone getting their hopes up about Gotze?
Bayern not extending his contract, not getting playing time, comments about Klopp... connection to Klopp and needing to get his career back on track..
I know its a long shot and with anyone here but Klopp I'd dismiss it... but, I can dream..

absolutely... Wanyama and Mane changed the match...
He's wanted out... I though he wanted a move to Spurs to reunite with Poch... I hope he doesn't go there!

I'd welcome him with open arms but where does he play? Behind the striker flanked by Cou on the left and Bob on the right?

quote:I am starting to buy into the hype a little bit. Still not getting my hopes up too much, but there's a lot more smoke now than just rumor it seems. Still think we have more pressing needs, but he's a player you can't turn down and definitely if the owners truly will back him financially this summer.
Gotze
Posted on 3/22/16 at 12:25 pm to DByrd2
IMO, Bob has to play through the middle... He was not effective out wide under Rodgers... Gotze has played out on the right at Dortmund..
That said, I'm sure they will interchange...

Why are we talking like we have already bought him? At this point that is a pipe dream.
Posted on 3/22/16 at 2:13 pm to STB
It looks like it is shaping up that Goetze would make a ton of sense for both parties...................which means it probably won't happen!!
