How does the group winners/runners up break out for the knock out rounds? I know that winners play runners up, but is there a fixed bracket, like Winner A plays Runner Up H, or is there a redrawing with winners in one pot and runners up in the other?

After group there is another draw stage for the round of 16. Winners are seeded, and runners up are drawn against winners with the winners hosting the second leg. Teams can't be drawn into the same opponents as grouo stage, nor can they be drawn against teams from the same league.

Using history to compare two teams with a gulf in class between them is fun.

It is certainly a statistic void of meaning. But like you say, it is fun!

We weren't comparing the two teams, but whatever. It's still an interesting piece of trivia that most fans wouldn't know.

Rumblings on the twitter-sphere that Song wants to come to back to England and that we are interested.

Nice cover in the middle of the field...

Anyone know his wages? I've heard that Barca fans want him gone as he's been pretty poor

Looking at that schedule, we really need to win our first two matches to avoid putting ourselves under a lot of unnecessary pressure.

ETA: I'm glad we have match day 6 at Anfield.

So if all the Pot A teams win their groups, our possibilities are Barca, Bayern, Atletico, Benifica, and Porto. Because we would have already played RM then Chelsea and Arsenal are in our league. Fingers crossed we could draw Porto or Benifica. Would absoultely hate to see Suarez and Barca.

Robinson has moved to qpr. Probably for the best as he was just not progressing enough and a move is probably in everyone's best interest.

With he and Kelly gone though it feels like the "future" of our defense that we have been waiting on for a few years is no longer possible. Kind of strange. Now I have no idea about any youth defenders with any hopes for development like they had.

Well Moreno and Manquillo are very young..

But Ryan McLaughlin (RB) and Brad Smith (LB) are the two younger guys with the biggest upside. Lloyd Jones would be the most promising young CB.

And of course, there is still Wisdom

So, it looks like the window is about to close and our business may be done (in - still may have a few out)..

Is everyone satisfied?? I have to say that I am satisfied overall, though I would really like to bring someone like Song in on loan for DM cover... even if Lucas stays. I can live with the rest until Jan.

So far, ~£35mm net spend and we have a reinforced squad... I think it may take a little time for our back line to click, but overall, I think it will be better. If Balotelli can play like he's capable, he can replace many of Luis's goals and we can fight for top 4 again... I think City and Chelsea are a cut above, but 3rd and 4th are up for grabs..

A nice start to that goal would be to drop the tots down a peg or two come Sunday

Really hoping we get DM cover and another GK but other than that I am very happy.

In others news, Adam Lallana will be In the squad for Sunday at Spurs!

Xabi Alonso said goodbye to Real Madrid on Friday and admitted he turned his back on a possible return to the Premier League because he did not want to spoil his Liverpool legacy.
The former Spain midfielder, who joins Bayern Munich from Real Madrid after five years at the club, has been linked with a return to England with former coach Jose Mourinho in the past and even to former rivals Manchester United this summer.
But speaking from the Bernabeu he said: 'I had five great years at Liverpool and I would rather just keep that memory as it is. The interest came in from Bayern in the last two weeks and it's the right decision.'
