It's true - at least once a year!

It was naive of us to think we really had a shot at him, given the LVG connection. He'll be really good for you guys. But don't worry about us, because I'm sure we'll splash some cash on a couple of 17-18 year old English "prospects" who will fit BR/FSG's masterplan!

I mean you guys were in the lead but I guess all United did was ask a price and not actually work on the deal like PSG and Liverpool did.

This probably falls on BR if you know the sharks are circle than snap him up.

I'm hesitant to throw al the blame on Rodgers on this one. I'm not sure what else he could have done? Our usual routine is to send in Ian Ayre to low-ball negotiations, drag everything out a couple of weeks (or months), and then they move on (Mkhitaryan, Willian, Sanchez, etc). At least this one was quick!

Apparently Liverpool offered more wages.

but last year wages> champions league even though BR said we wouldn't get top talent.

You guys need to go broke for Klopp or bring back Rafa.

Really bummed on this one, can't even deny it. Memphis is a star in the making. Props to Man U. The only good news about getting let down on this one is that I have absolutely no expectations anymore, what happens this summer will happen. My only remaining hope is for a new manager.

Meh.

They can have him.

Big chance he is the next Ryan Babel/Elia. Tons of young Holland dudes crash out after big seasons in the Erdivisie.

Knowing our luck/Manc frick luck, he'll do a Suarez the next 5 seasons though. We'd just squander him to the bench when he fell out of favor to Rodgers ala Markovic, Balo and Manquillo.

I feel like I would hate playing for Rodgers if my name wasn't Dejan Lovren.

Not sure why everyone's so shocked. As long as LVG wanted him, Memphis was gonna go there. It was only a matter of time until they officially showed interest.

I'm not shocked.. The time to sign him was last summer.

We only "led" for him because we inquired... Nothing more than sensational journalism...

Would he have been a nice addition, yes... But he's not one I'm sick we missed on. We have bigger needs and he'd likely take minutes from Ibe. Now, if we lose Raheem, id say a winger/wide forward becomes more of a need..

I think the assumption was if we got Depay, then Sterling is gone.

I agree though, we have other needs elsewhere.

Looks like Sturridge is out until October. That's a big blow and likely means - at best - he won't be in good form until November.

A forward or two is a necessity.

Rodgers insisting we didn't want depay. Dude - just stop. You're making yourself look more stupid every time you talk. The fact is - we are having trouble recruiting players. Big time. The two things we can change are the manager and the transfer team. The bigger impact will be the manager. And I think we have to push for klopp hard. Of course also being careful that too big of a push ( and pulling a Liverpooland failing to bring in klopp) likely means Rodgers will walk at his first opportunity due to our lack of loyalty. So it's tricky.

But something needs to be done - we will never be successful with the current transfer approach.

I think there is truth in to what Rodgers said about Depay. Though it doesn't mean we didn't inquire. We have bigger needs at the moment. Striker being one.

We have a ways to go, before we are competing for the top established talents, as well as the hottest young talents (that everyone wants). We need some sustained success.

I agree in going all out for Klopp, but playing Devil's Advocate here... he's never really recruited big name talent to BvB and he's had some questionable players in the transfer market, too. Would that change here? who knows.. Would sustained success by BR change that here... who knows?

I don't care one bit about big name players if they perform well whether it's Klopp or Rodgers who got them here.

I just think Klopp is better with what he has and even if he's had a few iffy buys, he's still much better than Rodgers. In the end, Klopp has much more notoriety and more respect in the footballing world.

Klopp and Liverpool just makes sense to me. It's a good fit with his personality and our club.

That said, Klopp's not happening
