Not able to watch, but twitter seems to think we look sharp. Mane has apparently been almost unplayable, and Matip has steadied the defense (against frigging Albion).

Can is down.
frick everything.
EDIT: Non-contact injury. frick.

Looks like a twisted ankle, which hopefully it is. Still, I guess that means we won't be seeing him this weekend.

Knee?
I really like Can. One of my favorites on the team. I hope it was just more of a scare, but doesn't sound good.
Good grief, the hits just keep on coming.
ETA: Just saw it is an ankle. Much better prognosis than much anything in the knee.

Mane was, again, MotM.
Milner played well defensively at RFB. Any drive down the right, however, and he was doomed. Amazingly enough, he somehow ended up on the left and made a drive and got an assist on a cross to Sturridge.
I like Lalana's pace and work-rate, but he totally whiffed a header that should have been a goal.
Can is a difference maker. Hopefully he'll be OK for this weekends match with the Spurs.
Henderson looks so much better when he's not playing a holding position.
I have to say, though he had a clever little back-heel for a goal, I wasn't pleased with Origi's performance. He looked heavier and slower than last season. Looks like maybe he's not fully fit yet? There was one moment where Mane was trying to make magic occur inside the box and Origi was just standing outside the box watching instead of moving in and trying to partner with Mane. The look on Mane's face afterwards made it clear he was none too pleased.
Sturridge's pace and work-rate started off incredibly slow, as usual. He's the guy who can't get into the game until somebody GET'S him into the game. After the Milner cross for a goal, his pace and work-rate were amazingly faster IMO. Do that more, Dan?
Matip's performance was pleasing. Still questions because this was just Burton, but he has great size and moves well for his size.
Lovren had a pretty stout game after his bonehead should-have-been-a-penalty early.
Kevin Stewart came in late and did nothing wrong, which is good for a young'un.

Can sprinted on it to catch a counter attack right before being taken off. Couldn't have been that bad if he booked it across field like that.

Trying to remember a transfer to Liverpool that has hit the ground running as well as Mane has.
Hoping to see what he can do against Spurs this weekend. Two teams that should be in great physical shape and ready to test each other.

If Can can't go, I hope that Klopp chooses Stewart if he's going to use a holding mid. I think he's got what it takes to become a regular choice for Liverpool.
Just don't want to see Hendo asked to do that again.

I'd be shocked if he started Stewart Saturday even though it is looking like Can will miss out.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Lallana-Hendo-Wij out there again, but I hope I'm wrong

If we play that midfield again, I think we're screwed
I think this season will really hinge on Can and Mané staying healthy

Luis hit the ground running quite well
Posted on 8/25/16 at 10:00 pm to Meursault
I remember thinking that it took Luis about a year to hit his stride and all I think of when I think of when he first came is that it felt like he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, even when wide open. If felt like he got exactly where you wanted him to be all the damn time, but never scored.

I <3 Jurgen Klopp.

quote:
“Of course you have the defensive ones with a bit more of it, there’s more responsibility with that. But you can say everyone is responsible for everything. You’re involved in offensive situations, involved in defensive ones.
“You can’t stay up front and wait until the next goal is coming. That’s not how it works. All these players are involved in everything. Having these different skills technical skills, passing skills, tactical skills, and speed in an ideal world plus fitness. That’s how players should be and the closer you come to the danger zone you have to have finishing skills.
“It’s not an issue when a player says ‘it’s not my favourite position’. Ask all my offensive midfielders what’s your favourite position and they’d say ‘No 10’ but no-one knows what a 10 is.
“It’s the most intensive defending position in football because you are involved in ****ing everything. That’s how it is but no one thinks about that, just that 10 is always involved in the game.
“It’s the same with Milly (James Milner). Ask him why not full-back and he’d say because he’s not involved in the game. But in our game the full-back has nearly 70% cent of the ball because always it’s about half spaces. Don’t think about it, just play football.”
Klopp insists there was no need for him to explain to Sturridge exactly why he was being asked to play out wide. He simply made it clear on the training field exactly what he wanted from him.
The manager says the England international, who scored twice after coming off the bench against Burton, has a licence to drift inside into the kind of central areas where he did the damage in midweek.
“Why should I explain to a player why he plays in a different position? We speak on the pitch in tactical training about what they have to do,” Klopp said.
“Look, it’s 2016 and you’re asking about a player who scores two in the centre about how he feels when he sometimes plays on the wing.
“I don’t want to play Daniel as a wide player. Of course he can play there, but in the decisive moments, he needs to be involved in all the finishing situations. That’s flexible football.
“Daniel is a very smart player at hiding himself in positions where it’s not easy to defend and that’s very often on the wing.
“I don’t want to speak about this 500 times a year. Ask him, he scored two goals from inside the box. That’s where he has to be.
“If he starts as a full-back, when the ball is in the box, Daniel Sturridge needs to be in and around it. These are the situations we try to create.
“In 2016 football is like this. Cristiano Ronaldo plays on the wing but is always in the box when the ball is in and around it.
“It’s about where you defend a little bit, it’s about closing spaces. It’s not about running around all the time. I said I don’t want to make Daniel a marathon runner, why should I?”

So it looks like Cou might miss out on the match tomorrow due to a hamstring. Guess Sturridge is practically guaranteed to start now

Yeah, I just remember Suarez's impact being immediate when joined during the '11 January window under Dalglish. 2012-13 I'm pretty sure Suarez led the league in shots off the cross bar or posts. But you're right in that he did not become God-tier status until 13-14.

Liverpool have made an £11m offer for Christian Pulisic, Borussia Dortmund's 17-year-old winger.
