Perfect result for us today, vis a vis Arsenal/Man City.

quote:

I hate teams below us having marches in hand

If both of Arsenal's two games in hand are wins, Arsenal still trails Liverpool by 2 points.

If both of Man U's two games in hand are wins, Man U is tied with Liverpool on points but still trails Liverpool on goal differential.

Liverpool's fate lies within its own hands. This is the way it should be.

By the way, Man U has matches against the following teams in its remaining ten fixtures:

Everton
Chelsea
@Man City
@Arsenal
@Spurs

Edit: In addition, Man U has Europa League which, at this point, they might give more consideration to prioritizing since that might be their more realistic possibility for Champions League qualification.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016%E2%80%9317_UEFA_Europa_League#Quarter-finals

Because of Europa League, Man U has at least 2 extra games this month. If they win in the quarters, they will have at least 2 more in May and 3 more if they win in the semis and make the final.

On top of that, somewhere in that schedule they have to make up their 2 games in hand.

Arsenal has matches against the following teams in its remaining ten fixtures:

Leicester
@Spurs
Man U
Everton

The only remaining matches Liverpool has left against teams in the top half of the table are Bournemouth and @Stoke.

Yes, I understand how Liverpool has played lately against mid-to-lower table teams. Its irritating.

But if this manager and these players desire Champions League play next year, that has got to stop doesn't it? And if it doesn't stop, then we don't deserve Champions League.

As I said above, Liverpool's fate is in its own hands.

yeah, we have the best run in of all the clubs fighting for top 4...

we need to get it done! If Mane is out for a long period... That would really suck..

Studge may have a hand yet to play in his LFC career...

Mane supposedly walked just fine (not even a brace on his knee) out from the game on Saturday in front of the press and gave a thumbs up when asked how he felt.

Now, he may not be able to play midweek, but it doesn't sound like a long term injury (que Liverpool luck ACL tear newsbreak)

Thinking about last game - it is perhaps the best Lovren performance I can remember (defensively), and Lucas' best game in a long while.

I just read in ESPNFC that BR is downplaying rumors concerning the Arsenal job. WTF?!! I apologize I'm not technically competent enough to link shite.

That would be glorious. Chamberlain and Walcott are going to be the fastest fullback duo in the league

https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/85/england/2017/04/04/34288752/wijnaldum-everton-aimed-to-injure

quote:

"The tackles, especially those from the players from Everton made on our players, it was hard to see, hard to accept, because I think you can play the game really hard, but not with the intention to give someone an injury," Wijnaldum told Sky Sports.

"For me, my opinion, that is a bad thing, because you have to play the game fair. Of course you can play hard, to win, but not to injure the player, because that is not part of the game.

"I saw a few, even in the replay, I saw a few tackles that had to be red."

I say Wij is 100% correct and that its been that way for at least 3 consecutive derbys now... last year losing Origi by Funes Mori (which likely cost us Europa League because Origi's quality of play was very high at that moment), December with Barkley on Hendo, this last weekend with Barkley on Can and Lovren in addition to Williams on Can.

Oh, and looking more and more like Mane is out for the year. His injury didn't look intentional by the Toffee player but, at this point, because of how they've been playing, I can't say I can rule it out.

I have a question boys. Is Hendo's injury related to that foot problem he has? I remember some rather serious concern that the condition he has might end up resulting in future problems and now he has a foot injury. Just curious.

Think I read somewhere, it's his right foot that is bothering him now.

He has Plantar Fasciitis, which is basically an inflammation in his heel, in his left foot. It is incurable but heals on it's own and the discomfort from it subsides after the initial few months. Maybe he is suffering from the same on his right foot now.

Mind you he broke his right metatarsal in 2015 so it could even have something to do with that. But this is all speculation. Club haven't released any details.

Was just coming to post this after reading it in the echo this morning....

damn, we just can't catch a break. At least cou is rounding into form. And Origi scored - he seems to be a confidence guy whose goals come in bunches.

Plus Studge supposedly now fit.

I believe, after this week, we are one game a week from here on out.

We will miss Mane's pace though - and have no real replacement for it.

Really hoping Sturridge can stay fit the rest of the season (tall ask I know). He would really help trying to break down these sides that are just gonna sit deep against us.

Just saw everyone saying it's Mané's meniscus. Could definitely be a lot worse but I'd be surprised if he plays again this season.

ManU drops more points at Old Trafford, getting a draw with Everton. Thanks Toffees, you cheating fricks.

Take care of Bournemouth today and we'll be 8 points clear of ManU (ManU with one game in hand) and 11 clear of Arsenal (Arsenal two in hand until their result today).

We really really really really need to take care of business today.

Mane officially done for the year...surgery required.

Sturridge is supposedly healthy. Need him to knuckle down and either show he wants to be a part of the team going forward, or showcase his talent for his next potential team.

Either way, we're going to need him down the stretch.

COME ON STUDGE!

If he started Sturridge, it would be evidence that Klopp needed some quiet time in a padded room.

Studge may not be ready to start yet... but he is a wildcard capable of giving us goals.. Like I mentioned this weekend, we'll need him down the stretch with our injuries, if we want top 4...

Studge should be sold in the summer. I want him to go out in a blaze of glory scoring 10-12 goals between now and the end of the season.
