Club Deportivo Motagua of New Orleans, the first amateur soccer team from Louisiana to ever qualify for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in its modern format, will visit Mississippi Brilla Futbol Club during the first round of that tournament on May 11, officials announced Wednesday.

Brilla, based out of Clinton, Mississippi, belongs to the United Soccer Leagues-sponsored Premier Development League, in which the New Orleans Jesters and Baton Rouge Capitals also competed. The club has appeared in the U.S. Open Cup twice before and has won four league divisional championships, including one last year.

Brilla used to be pretty damn good. Used to watch a few matches when I was in school in Jackson.

Should be a good contest. Motagua players have been playing together for the last 3+ years and have some decent team chemistry. Brilla seems like they always field a strong team. The Brilla are familiar with a few Motagua players from the Capitals and Jester PDL days.

If Motagua win there's a strong chance they could host USL club, Oklahoma Energy FC.

That would be exciting for New Orleans.

I watched 30 minutes of the first half. brilla were definitely the better team. matagua looked pretty weak in midfield and they seemed to be having a hard time moving the ball from the back up to the forwards.

also, that pitch looked horrible.

Ugly game. Unprepared and unmotivated.

Second half was better but it was too late.

On to the Jesters repping NOLA.
