ESPN UK

Mohamed Salah is considering his international future with Egypt, a source has confirmed to ESPN FC, because of his unhappiness at being drawn into a political row during his stay in Chechnya with his national team during the World Cup.

CNN first reported on Sunday that the Liverpool forward was deciding whether to return to the Egypt team after the World Cup.

Before the tournament began, Salah was pictured alongside Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of the Chechen Republic, at Egypt's base in Grozny. Kadyrov declared Salah to be an honorary citizen of Chechnya in a ceremony with the player.

Is he gay? I don’t keep up with or care about soccer players sexual preferences.

Seriously, the ducking World Cup is being played in Russia ????, and look who is next. I mean everyone knows if US would not have indicted all the FIFA officials it would have been in North Korea after that.

They are all being used as political pawns. And yes the guy is a super prick but do you know who the president of Eqypt is right now?

I am sure everyone would like a player like Salah on their team. I bet I could even get Trump to give him a green card. Lol.

I don't see him being made to take pictures with the president of Egypt.

What if he was on England next Cup? They would have to be one of favorites. Maybe he could balance out all the Tottenham cocks?

Or the USA team? Maybe we could actually make the damn finals of Gold cup?

He can only play for Egypt since he’s already played for them. It’s just like FIBA

What?

That's not how any of this works.

That sucks so he is basically a political prisoner. They need to use the Olympic rule

The Olympic Rule? Each federation sets its own rules. Only Speed/ice Skating, FINA,and IAAF allow switches that I can recall. IIHF doesn’t that I recall. But I have never seen a hockey player want to switch except Hull and he did it before playing internationally

I think the rule is why US Soccer went after some German midfielder so strong as they knew once he declared he was locked in for life.

You can declare all you want, but it doesn't really matter until you play a game.

You have to play in an official senior match. There's a few exceptions, but that's the main thing.

Couldn’t he theoretically file a one time switch despite being cap tied, or does FIFA have to approve?

If you're cap tied, you're stuck, unless there's an extremely unusual case like your country split up or something.

Can only use the switch if you played for another country in the youth ranks.

Like Julian Green was a German U-20 player, but switched for the US.

What exactly is the row though? That he was pictured with Kadyrov?

This is my question too.
I've read the article. It's pretty vague on what the actual problem is.
