I posted it in the match thread, but I would really like to know if there was ever a CB pairing smaller than those two, at least in the World Cup

Since we haven't lost to Ghana yet... I totally agree!

EDIT: I definitely agree with Chile not being that good and being a hipster pick to win.

I'm not convinced he was fully fit to start this match.

Granted, Spain don't really cross, so that could be a bit of an out for Chile.

But still, the defensive issues for them go far beyond the height of their CB's. First off, it's not like they have two Cannavaros. But beyond that, it's just a tactical nightmare, there was so much space for a hugely average Australia. They're just wide fricking open.

You could argue that the biggest Chile disappointment was their attack. Seemed extremely meh after the first ten minutes or so. Not impressed. Even in 2010 they were extremely fun to watch, but didn't score many goals. Subtract Vidal and it's just Sanchez and a horrific defense.

I wish VDB would go with almost all youngsters. They're not going to win it all anyway.

I agree with that. Neither were fully fit to play the last weeks of la liga. Certainly not the champions league. I wonder again if it was even a good idea to bring Deigo to the tournament. I mean, is this a reward for picking Spain over Brazil? Starting him today didn't help, but if he had been rested would he have ever been at least 95%?

Ronaldo also shouldn't be playing in (at least) the first match, but that will never happen. I just hope these guys aren't wrecking their futures.

I'm holding off saying they won't win (this was only one match after all). But I would like to see some younger guys in there as well

I definitely agree with all of that, and that their problems are not really that simple, but while Tim Cahill is excellent in the air, teams would almost be stupid to not try to test their back two. Neither of them can jump through the roof like Cannavaro, and though I haven't paid special attention to his aerial ability before today, I thought that Medel was honestly quite awful in the air, even for his size. Diego Costa isn't exactly dominant in the air, but he's not awful, either, and it would at least be worth a shot.

That was what every player should have said about that goal

What he said was completely true. But it was funny hearing him say it.

Definitely, but that beat the hell out of some weird rambling like, "we prepared for Casillas to give us this..."

That was hilarious.

"Hey Roberto, why don't you get out of your seat, walk around te table and down the stairs across the room and show us shite on that screen over there."

Basically that it was an amazing goal. A real masterclass goal. Just smug, but true so you can only shake your head and laugh.
