Really? He seems fine on the ball, but he doesn't striker fear into me with his final ball or dribbling like Coutinho does, who for me is a technically gifted player. Henderson seems a tidy player, not particularly creative, but comfortable and versatile in possession, and smart on the ball. He still has time to develop creative qualities, but he seems to occupy the runner role in the midfield three.

Maybe we differ on what we mean by technically gifted, which is an entirely different discussion.

Although looking at his stats, I might be wrong. I'll watch him more closely from now on.

The wind here right now is absolutely diabolical. Going to make this evening's match a bit interesting...

Tooooor Lahm! Know he doesn't score often, but 96 games? Long streak

Well if we return to one touch quick passing of season's past then advantage us. If we try to continually bomb it up the pitch then we are retarded. The crazy wind might help though if it happens to redirect the consistently hapless crosses on target. Here's to hoping.

Been out of the loop this week: is Michu fit?

Yea, he's the odd man out in this midfield because of Gerrard's presence. By all means Henderson is a complete midfielder, but Gerrard is undroppable by name alone, which is a separate issue. I don't think Henderson minds his current role, but no doubt he's waiting for next season, which is when Gerrard will begin to not be an automatic selection.

Coutinho is an entirely unique player. He's a futsal player; a completely different breed from anyone else in the squad. A technical specimen for sure.

What I mean is that, like you said, he is in a runner role right now. His technical abilities really aren't on display, largely because of the role he plays. His job is to work hard defensively, make runs into space, and retain possession. Hardly glamorous. As Gerrard begins to be phased out, however, he will be put into a role that highlights the finesse behind his game.

Both Vorm and Michu trained this week, but won't know if they're fit until the team selection comes out.

I think he's a good player, but I don't know if he has that innate invention that separates the technically gifted from the merely technical. I think he'll probably grow into a superb DM/DLP, but he isn't a player you build a team around. Wilshere, who has the best vision of any young English midfielder, and Barkley, who has massive ability to carry the ball, have that drive and spark for me, in terms of English midfielders, who Henderson will have to play second fiddle to in the national set up unless he explodes. He reminds me of James Milner, except better. A young right sided midfielder who was moved centrally, who can do whatever you ask him too, but can only be described as proficient and not great. Neither are worth their price tags, but are good players nonetheless.

Barkley is a massive player. Too bad there isn't a dollar amount on earth to move him across Merseyside.

Never been a big fan of Wilshere, but I digress. I don't mind Henderson playing second fiddle in the England side. He's a massive player for Liverpool right now, and the fact that there is a big section of the fanbase calling for him in the XI above Gerrard is a testament to his skill.

Shane Long is the most underrated striker in the EPL.

Newcastle is useless without Cabaye.

Nah, he has superb vision and dribbling skill. His mentality is shite at times, and he's petulant to a fault, but he has plenty of ability. I'm not saying he's a complete player but rather, England are more likely to build a team around him than they are a player like Henderson. He's a pretty superb DLP, and his ability to drive from deep is evidenced by how many fouls he suffers. What exactly is your issue with him?
