I still question how well they would play together.

Good point. I think Rooney is enough of a team player to accept a secondary role up top. I hate him, but he's always done what's best for United, before whats best for himself.

If we thought United was on an epic run from the 90's until now, it would pale in comparison to the bulldozing of Europe that would occur if those two could click.

I think Fergie would play hard ball when it came to the cost. RvP is older than I would like and he has a checkered injury history.

Fergie confirms RvP bid. I guess we're about to find out if he wants to play for a winner with tradition or if he's trying to stack some coin.

Alright, how does everyone feel about this?

On one hand, I'd love to have him. Golden Boot, great scorer, wants to play for the best. A Rooney-RVP combo up front would wreck.

On the other hand, where does this leave guys like Welbeck and Berbatov? Hernandez would be a great backup striker (RVP is not the toughest cat around, so injuries are definitely an issue), I think he'd stick around in a non-starting role. But Welbeck and Berbs might be on their way out.

I for one would love to see Berbatov hit the road, especially when you can upgrade to a Golden Boot. Don't want to lose Welbeck at all.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'd love to have RVP, and he would be the only older new signing I'd want. Goals are goals, and we'd still have Hernandez to back up. But Welbeck might leave in all this, he still hasn't gotten a new contract locked down.

Thoughts?

Welbeck some more time to develop and get some damn composer

Berbs will be at some other EPL club before the season starts

with his ball skills they could drop him back into a attacking mid role b/c he has never really been an all out striker, a Cicho and Kagawa combo with Rooney and RVP good loord

So you're advocating a lineup like this?

Rooney, RVP
Nani, Hernandez, Kagawa, Young
BACK LINE
GOALIE

Sorry, but I don't want two attacking mids. We need a defensive/possession minded mid in there as well.

Hernandez wouldn't be that great of a mid to me.

That front six would get overrun quite easily, never mind the fact that Ferguson would never play a side like that.

Rooney and RvP are similar players. They might work well together, but with Ferguson's desire to rotate, it's probably more accurate to say that Rooney and RvP will pair with other players more often. Kagawa has never played as a CM, as he's always played much closer to the strikers, and Hernandez will never be a midfielder. Hernandez is an almost by the book off-the-shoulder poacher who can pair well with either Rooney or RvP.

I see Man U's bid for RvP more as a way of building squad depth for Europe, since he and Kagawa give Fergie the option for more tactical variation. Both can play wide, or as the AM in a midfield three, when Man U has to play their version of the 4-5-1/4-3-3 against continental teams. More importantly, RvP can play as a lone striker, which is something Rooney can do, but doesn't like to do, since he wants the ball at his feet so often.

Chico is kinda like a twener lol it's just hard for him to find a set position he really should not be used out wide but you see him roaming out there

Th Mexican style does not translate well to the EPL

He'll be fine in my opinion. He's probably the best poacher in the EPL at the moment (more a reflection of the fact that few teams play the 4-4-2 anymore). But when sides play deep against Man U, you're better off with Welbeck who can create space due to his size and technique.
