Seems Fernando Reges and Mohammed Salah are the names gathering steam for January...
Reges would be awesome and possibly cheap, since his contract is up in the summer... I'm sure those greedy portugueezers will try to frick us though...
Salah is young but talented... speed merchant, and UCL experience against the big boys... Scored a couple against Chelski too

Seems like a good time to be catching Cardiff..

Cardiff boss Malky Mackay is told by owner Vincent Tan in a highly critical email to resign or he will be sacked, BBC Sport understands.

quote:
"I find it incredible all the talk about Malky, who I know well from working with him at Watford," the Liverpool manager, formerly in charge at Swansea, said.
"I find it astonishing what he has had to go through. This is a guy [Tan] who walked into Cardiff after they had lost in the play-off semi-finals and they waited two weeks to sack the manager Dave Jones on the day we [Swansea] were in the final – which I found strange.
"Malky walked into the club with 10 players that summer and he totally transformed the mentality of the club. He took them to the Carling Cup final, to a play-off place and just lost out and the following season took them to the championship and promotion.
"He has had great results this season and is going to go on and be a great manager at a big club and I find it absolutely astonishing there is talk about him leaving there.
"I worked with Iain Moody at Watford, one of the most authentic people you could ever meet. My only conclusion is you have a business guy operating the club who knows absolutely nothing about football. He has obviously been a successful businessman – congratulations - but football is like no other business.
"When I see what Malky has had to put up with, to see him being questioned I find it remarkable. Especially when supporters there look up to him and respect him for what he's done."
I sort of hope he gets sacked, because then Brendan won't feel bad about dropping another 5-0 on some team.

Suarez signed a long term extension. highest paid player in Liverpool history.

....and the release clause? Hopefully this keeps him at the club long term.
Can someone fark this into Scrooge McDucks vault?

Ive seen where he will get £160-170k/wk for the remainder of the season and then £200k/wk until 2018.
Ive seen it suggested that the buyout is £102mm if we are in the UCL, £80mm if not... Have no idea if this is true.

Looking back on the way FSG handled the Suarez situation, gotta give them props..
After some growing pains they are settling into European football just fine and doing it their way... Also, nice to see they are willing to pay big boy wages WHEN WARRANTED!

i would imagine it makes it quite high, but leaves the possibility of a Real or other major club swoop open.
still huge for 'Pool. gotta say, i did not see him reacting to BR's trashing of him in the summer like this. speaks a lot about him and his love for the sport.

quote:Agreed. I didn't doubt him going out and giving 100% on match day, but he definitely has a change in attitude, which I think could be partly due to the success.

He seems much more content, less diving and complaining, and embracing a leadership role (see last Sunday as the captain).

Yeah he's acted completely different this year. Even in matches like Hull where he was obviously frustrated, he never lost his cool. He's come a long way since the debacle of this summer. And regardless of whether he leaves or not, signing this contract is a show of support for the club and guarding our well being no matter where he ends up.
