A pay wall isn’t better for growing the league

MLS needed the money and took it from Apple

No one else was offering anything close to that

A paywall is fine. A paywall when every game kicks off at the same time is robbery

90% of the matches behind a paywall isn’t fine

But you are right that when most of the them kick off at 7pm on a Saturday night and the rest at 10:30 it’s an issue

Taking the NFL model when you are nothing close to the NFL is stupid

Hate to break it you, but this will be all sports shortly.

MLS was ahead of the curve in that aspect.

No it will be a mix

Giving an option for streaming and cable/satellite

I think the YouTube Tv model with Sunday ticket is the best plan. A service that offers traditional tv and a streaming exclusive

MLS took the offer of the most money they are not ahead of the curve

Both are true here.

I promise, you can still hate the MLS and give them credit for something.

I’ve said multiple times I don’t blame them at all for taking the Apple TV deal

Financially it’s great business, especially since everyone else probably laughed them off the table for that type of money.

Now for growing the game it’s a bad move especially on a platform that hasn’t proven it can be an exclusive provider for a league.

It took years of Amazon proving it can do the NFL with like 5-8 games a year before it went to that exclusive TNF deal

The EPL give Amazon only a few matches a season

You don't think that Apple would possibly sell this out to other streaming platforms? This is the first year under Apple and no one knows how this will play out in the streaming landscape.

Would have nothing to do with their current partnership with Peacock?

I think it's dumb to have it in a paywall behind a paywall, but it will be better bang for your buck once they stagger the start times, which they will do next season because they are going to want all eyes on Inter Messi

The fact remains that you have a singular place in order to watch every MLS game at a reasonable price. AppleTV has some seriously high-quality shows and Apple is the dominant phone in the United States, plenty of potential customers.

That’s not how exclusive rights work

No NBC/Peacock is just for American tv rights

Amazon shows matches in the UK that are not on Sky or BT. It’s usually only Boxing Day or some random mid week matches.

They could do that right now with the FS1 matches or change their “free” Apple TV matches.

Just wondering how will places like sports bars be able to stream these MLS matches? Are they selling a package with DirectTV and Dish or do they need to individually buy the MLS season pass?

Edit: looked it up and DirecTV has partnered with AppleTV to offer MLS Season Pass on their service.

Absolute scenes in the beautiful city of Orlando as the Cardiac Cats bury Santos with a 92nd minute winner to top the group.

On to the retirement community down south to show them that Florida is still purple! Vamos City!

Unlikely

Honestly MLS have exceeded my expectations in this tournament.

Agreed. It diminishes the value of the product you are purchasing. It’s impossible to comfortably watch matches simultaneously and get the full experience. Just dumb imo.

Is there a patent on system that NFL Sunday Ticket uses for watching 7-8 games at a time
