Soon they'll be able to print the T-shirts!

How the hell are the US just 36? We are at least top 25. Where is the love?

It's a terrible point system based on your recent success in tournaments etc

What else would it be based on?

What did England do in the euros that warranted #3?

European teams get an automatic boost from having just played in the Euros while the rest of the world was at home. One look at England at #3 is all you need to know.

Exactly, Brazil out of the top 10 is a joke.

If I'm reading the article right the guy does admit that Brazil's ranking is skewed because they haven't been playing competitive fixtures.

You also get extra points for John Terry being your captain.
Wow. Benin jumped 52 spots, now at 72. Dark horse for WC 2014.

Probably not enough but they did win their group, didn't lose a game, and went out only on penalties to the eventual finalists. That combined with the fact they didn't lose a game in qualifying either I guess is why they are third.
I'm not saying it's totally justified but who clearly deserves to be above them? Italy who flamed out at the last WC? Argentina maybe based on talent but what have they really done with it? Brazil, but their situation has already been explained. The Netherlands were obviously horrid at the Euros. Portugal barely qualified.

England hasn't made it further than Portugal in a tournament in 10 years.

Ever heard of the BCS?
Have part of it based on your record, but part of it based on an objective group of soccer aficionados.

The biggest joke in sports, yea.

Is this for real?

It's all about qualifying!
Unless we're talking about KNVB, then it's all about their finish.

I'm not saying the rankings are flawless by any means but qualifiers do count and unless I'm mistaken Portugal had to go into qualification playoffs for the last WC and the Euros. Also, what happened ten years is not really relevant now, these aren't all time rankings.

Yeah, there's nothing funny at all about a ranking that tells us England's POS team is 3rd in the world
Posted on 8/8/12 at 11:12 am to Jumbeauxlaya
A team that hasn't lost a competitive fixture in 4 years and only 2 in the last 6 is a POS? Since they failed to qualify for Euro 2008 the results have been far from spectacular but very solid.

The sad thing is that FIFA rankings take into account results from up to four years ago. Granted that the multiplier used for points for these games is diminished, a World Cup qualifier in 2008 against Kazakhstan still garners England points. It also skews in favor of UEFA and CONMEBOL teams.

So losing in PKs isn't losing, in your opinion.
Is that what you're saying? Because it counts as a loss everywhere else.
