Liverpool FC has placed some staff who are impacted by the Premier League suspension on furlough. The club has confirmed those staff will be paid 100 per cent of their salaries to ensure no member of staff is financially disadvantaged. Last month the club also confirmed that it would pay its matchday and non-matchday staff while the Premier League is suspended.
What’s sad is them taking advantage of whatever tax relief or whatever it is helping to pay them, but that’s a different argument. And most fans have already voiced their concerns

The Leeds fans that run the square ball fanzine played football manager 07 for 24 hours yesterday for charity, raised 26k and got Leeds promoted to tGOATpionship despite that draconian fifteen pernt deduction

Allowing for perspective in these unprecedented and harrowing times, it is important to address an issue we, as an organisation, have been involved in since the weekend.

We have consulted with a range of key stakeholders as part of a process aimed at achieving the best possible outcome for all concerned. A range of possible scenarios were considered, including but not restricted to: applying to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, which pays 80 per cent of salary and guaranteeing the 20 per cent payment; applying to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme with a guarantee to reimburse monies received at a later date; and, thirdly, finding an alternative means to cover our furlough costs.

It is as a direct result of this extensive consultation and our own internal deliberations at various levels throughout the club that we have opted to find alternative means despite our eligibility to apply for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

We believe we came to the wrong conclusion last week to announce that we intended to apply to the Coronavirus Retention Scheme and furlough staff due to the suspension of the Premier League football calendar, and are truly sorry for that.
Nice to hear them admit they got it wrong. They did the same when initially trying to raise ticket prices

I wasn’t surprised at first because FSG are a business and they run things that way so of course they were gonna try to do whatever they could to cut costs and minimize financial losses. But at least they’ve listened when the fans have complained so it’s good to know they’ve at least got their ears open and see that a football club is more than just a business

I knew this response was coming.. And good on them for taking the corrective action..

I'm a little conflicted with it all (even the ticket price issue), though knowing the politics of the city, it's not at all surprising..

It just seems that a lot of the European based supporters (not limited to LFC) want the club to have owners that spend out of the goodness of their own hearts and because they love the club (oversimplification, I know..)
