As early as Wednesday Luhukay will waive central defender John Anthony Brooks. The 21-year-old American was like Hany Mukhtar and Marvin Plattenhardt seconded to the Regional game under 23 on Friday at SV Babelsberg. A week ago, the 2: 2 in Freiburg Brooks had played from the beginning, but there does not convince his coach. "Brooks has not been strong enough in Fribourg and has made ??some mistakes," said Luhukay. "This is all crucial for him that he is constant." Last season were fluctuating performance yet been "acceptably" with him, Luhukay said. "This year, but no more."

On his return to the Bundesliga this season, Brooks has started three games but was left out of Hertha’s squad which lost 1-0 to Augsburg at the weekend and he instead played in a 3-0 win for their reserves on Friday. In the previous game the German-American was criticized as the Berliners drew 2-2 against SC Freiburg.

Hertha’s head coach Jos Luhukay has had issues with Brooks before. Last season the USMNT player was disciplined after having a huge tattoo inked on his back and not being able to play. Luhukay warned Brooks he must be more mature and at times the American defender struggled during his first full season in the Bundesliga, and was substituted early in games on more than one occasion.

With Hertha sitting in 14th spot in Germany’s top flight after the first six games of the season, more was expected of Brooks after his heroics for the USA at the World Cup this summer. After coming through the ranks at his hometown club Hertha, Brooks is at a critical point in his young career.

I'd take him at Arsenal.

Why were they expecting more from him just because he played a bit in the World Cup? He was our 4th choice CB. Why would they expect him to step right in and be a full starter for a bundesliga side in need of positive results?

They keep citing his "inconsistency" but if you were going to cut every player who's inconsistent, teams would have trouble filling out squads. He must be playing like complete arse for a team to go along with parting ways.

It sounds like this coach is a huge doucher and sort of has it out for Brooks. I understand he's done some immature things, but he's 21. To just straight cut him is strange

There's a misconception among many managers that playing half-decent or better in a World Cup automatically makes you a good player.

ETA: I'd happily take Brooks at Celtic.

Supposedly he's just being demoted to the reserves rather than being cut.

And yeah it seems like there are some obvious off the field issues here, but the coach seems to publicly criticize him every time he has a mediocre performance, which seems excessive.

That all said I would love to have him at Arsenal if Hertha end up not wanting him. He has fantastic potential and would be a great young prospect for us who could slot in as the 4th CB for depth purposes.

We need another American at United. I miss the days of Timmy Howard.

Dude has done nothing at the club level. If Belgium wasn't so good and Lukaku wasn't punished for poor effort during the World Cup, nobody would know who Origi is.

I don't think Origi was signed to be a world beater when Pool bought him, hence him being loaned back to Lille.

He does have 3 goals in 6 matches this year though.
