At this point JMo is probably a starting winger with Pulisic. At least until Llanez or Konrad come good.

You're still conceivably in your prime at 30. Regardless, it was too early of a move back.

Looking back, I don’t think they were awful decisions. You basically had three guys who found their ceiling in Europe: two toughed it out through some shitty situations over the better part of the decade, one was the wrong side of 30. They were all three presumably presented with a substantial salary increase to move thousands of miles closer to home. We saw with Landon that you could play at a very high level internationally while in MLS, but I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise that Landon’s weird arse was the exception

I think the bigger issue is the lack of genuine contributors between that group of players and the players coming up now. I wonder how much the DA creation and youth soccer restructuring that occurred right after Jozy came through can be blamed

Ultimately, we’re certainly not in a position to look past players who may have turned a corner since their last dismal showings for us

I still think missing the olympics two cycles in a row hurt us a lot. So did Holden's injury. No one in the 24-28 range stepped up. Mix fizzled. So an aging Bradley was incredibly our best option. I can't really blame these dudes for taking 2-3x their pay abroad to come play here. sucks for their development but great for their families.

I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic, and taking a shot at US soccer over the coaching search. You probably already knew that but, you know, message boards and all that
And don't forget Jurgys favorite phrase "express yourself".

I was making fun of the hiring process where we didn’t even interview Tata.

Yup. Donde esta pville?

4 of his 5 goals came against Cuba and Uruguay's fricking B-team.

Jordan Morris shouldn't be anywhere near the starting lineup. At least Nipples works his arse off on the wing.

Everyone remember.......we are having a civil war in this thread for no reason. It doesn’t matter who is called up, Gregg is the gaffer

But that also coincided with his best run of form for Seattle.

Between July 14 and September 16, he had 5 goals and 5 assists with Seattle (10 games). Had a hat trick against Dallas in the 1st round in October and helped Seattle win the MLS Cup. The Uruguay match was in September and the Nations League was Oct/Nov.

Arriola is better than Morris, but Morris had a great year for someone who missed all of 2018 and looked like he actually improved his game. Is he a starter for us? No, but he can be a good bench player if he keeps improving, and I say that as someone who was staunchly against him for years.

I personally just have a hard time putting value in a modest scoring record in a modest to below-modest level of play as far as leagues are concerned.

I agree with all this.

My biggest cause of angst for the situation we are in with the player pool is the fact that there is no (or seems to be no) plan for talent evaluation and who gets call-ups. Yes, injuries have been a factor, but for the big boy camp call ups, it is routine to see head scratching personnel decisions.

We haven't seen a consistent lineup since before Sarachan, and a little back from that as well. Nor have we seen consistent call-ups.

We aren't plugging young prospects in with the seniors and giving them chances to build game chemistry among what otherwise should be a starting lineup. Instead we are mixing almost half and half the seniors and young guns, and by virute of constantly doing that the MNT has no chemistry among the vets.

It is absolutely mind-blowing that we don't seem to have a better plan than night-walking through this whole scenario.

Even still, losing to them a few months ago is our second most embarrassing loss in the last 4 years. l

Canada is not "decent". Mexico is a "decent" team on the world stage. We used to be "decent". Canada is still below us both, although they ARE improving.

I think we have been doing that. The problem is that we just don't really have many senior vets at some positions, so we're kind of forced to try to use half vets/half young guys. It's not ideal, but it's what we're stuck with. If we were to bring in more vets (most of which are guys that the masses never really liked in the first place), the same people would be complaining that we have to give more young people a chance.

Llanez got brought in to the January camp. Gregg courted and locked down Dest. I’m not sure who deserves a call up who hasn’t gotten one lately. I’m pretty sure chandler gets called up in March.
