I don't really watch the MLS except for randomly here and there. If ATL got a team I would support them and go to matches for sure but it's hard to get into something when the quality is subpar and there are no teams within hundreds of miles of where you live. I also don't like how many hispanic players there are because I don't like the way they play for the most part. So if that makes me not a real US soccer fan then so be it.

I don't know. I don't really care that much about MLS just like I don't about MLB because I don't have a team. I'll watch games here and there but there isn't really anything for me to care much about.

D.C. united fan here, pretty terrible this year.
Play the Sounders tomorrow right before the WC kicks off. Having said that, I don't blame someone for not watching the MLS. They are at the bottom of my sports hiearchy.

Summary, the MLS is not as good as the best English and Euro leagues, but at least we have pro soccer here now, so in time, there will be better play and better players.
No one thinks that the Spanish and Italian and Greek hoops leagues are better than the NBA, but they are pretty good and they make it possible for their people to play for money, which is the key to long term improvement.

That's a fair point Otto.

quote:I am the same way. I can't remember the last time I watched a whole game on TV. But I don't really watch any other domestic leagues until it gets to the Champions League. The Seattle - Barca game I went to was awesome and I would probably have a different outlook if I lived there.

The MLS is getting better every year. I don't keep up with it that much because the style isn't very exciting to watch on tv, and there isn't a home team to support within driving distance. The casual fan, in most instances, would rather sit down and watch a baseball or football game, but those two sports and their respective leagues have been around alot longer. I've been to many games in Houston and Dallas, and games really are much better to watch in person. MLS needs to get all of it's teams into soccer specific stadiums, and this will help. The stadiums won't be half full, and it will be that teams stadium, and the fans will have a better experience. Another thing that hurts is the casual fan sees that most of our best players are playing across the pond, so they just automatically think MLS is a bad league, because if the league was good enough, these guys would stay in America.

Summer in Atlanta...I am not so sure I could handle the heat (though I'll find out with the Braves Brewers game on the 15th of July)

Start the games at 8. No big deal.

Agree with everything the OP says. Watch the foriegn leagues, but watch the MLS too. It helps ratings, and makes the league more money.
In turn increasing the quality of play. And now that we have the acadamies rolling we can expect to sell more players to foriegn leagues increasing revenue streams.

I support Everton in the EPL and Real Salt Lake in MLS. Not sure that I understand the point of the snobbery as the respective seasons do not even overlap that much. If you are a fan of the game, why would you not watch MLS?

All of the lousy ESPN guys agreed that having MLS is the #1 reason for the success of the national team.

If the MLS awarded a franchise to New Orleans then I can assure you, I would be all over it.

Ill tell you why....I really want to be a fan of USA soccer....I do...and Im sure that in time it will get better and more talent will come along. That said, I cant get into the whole MLS thing of ripping off Euro name pieces, Like "real" or "United" ...get some history and be original man...
