yeah, I don't really have a team in other leagues... or if I do, they are usually player based and fluctuate...

Yes, but at the time and in the BPL, they were clearly the Yankees analogue.

No b/c they don't spend the most in the Premier League era.

True, but they were some distance from their heyday, weren't they? Have they even ever won the Premier League?

No they have never won it but the Yankees also went through a slump. Comparing clubs to american sports teams just doesn't work for a variety of reasons.

After discussing with one of my good friends who follows the EPL religiously I'm making the leap with Everton this year. Good club but not bandwagoniah good, have a good fan base and play in an old stadium. I'm excited

While EPL (or any top flight Euro league) is fun, sometimes it's like watching regular season NBA basketball (to put it into context for American fans) even the good teams sometimes look like they're just pacing themselves.

Oh and if you want a team: The Pensioners

Liverpool.
In spite of Suarez, the Reds are a great follow.
Any club that has their team song featured in a Pink Floyd song ... AWESOME.

At that point in time, it was probably Chelsea. Man City still had Reyna on its roster, I believe. But it wasn't about money spent, it was about championships. I just thought it would have been too cheap to pick the most successful team without another good reason to do so.

Of course direct comparisons eventually fall of their own weight. But cut me some slack, wouldja?

I'm pretty sure before Chelsea came along Man U spent the most. Man U never spent on Chelsea's level but they sure paid whatever the asking price was. Now it doesn't matter, but the Yankees analogue makes sense for the 92-02 era. I can understand why people made that reference even though it wasn't accurate.

I am sure this has already been posted, but if I were you, I would not worry about it.

I've been watching the EPL for about 7 years now, and not having a team is nice. I enjoy nearly every game to the fullest extent it deserves, no result bothers me much, and I avoid the trap of pretending to be a die-hard fan of a team I didn't hear of until I was in my late 20s.

Step up, and pull for a non PL team.

Personally, it's Ipswich Town for me, my mother is from Ipswich and I lived in England until i was about 10. I was lucky to be there when they won the FA Cup.

One day we'll get promoted back to the EPL, one day.

My mother is from South Louisiana and I've lived here all my life. Doesn't make sense for me to just pick some club. I M O

I've watched a lot of soccer over the past couple of years and have determined some of my favorite players play for Bayern Munich.... Robben (Dutch heritage), Muller, Gotze, Shaqiri and Bastian.

I just wish the Bundesliga was more accessible in the US.

We would make that one splash buy a summer other than like on year. We didn't have to go crazy b/c the class of 92.

I get what your saving but at that point the most successful team was still Liverpool and you can still argue even now they are.

Its amazing they stayed up as long as they did esp being in the shadow of Chelsea.

Hopefully they bounce right back up and don't fall into darkness like Charlton did.

Thank you.

The "Liverpool as the most successful theory" is a lot like claiming Notre Dame is the most successful college football team...
