Huge gap between club and international performance (Altidore)

I'm trying not to freak out too much about this. I think it was clear last night that midfielders were not picking their heads up to send Jozy some through balls when he was open.
Can anyone think of any other circumstance where a young player has dominated at the club level and been so poor for his national team?
I'm sure it has happened before.

better competition, typically, on the international stage when compared to the Dutch league. Less familiarity within the system and between players. I'm beginning to think Jozy may have a serious attitude problem as well.

I have heard Jozy has an attitude problem, but that can sometimes be attributed to the coach. When I was a kid, I played basketball, soccer, and track. My track and soccer coaches loved me, and my basketball coach hated me. I would talk back to him during games because he was such an incompetent a-hole who yelled just to yell.

Jozy is actually slightly precocious in terms of his goalscoring. He's built like a target striker, and typically those type of players don't develop until around 25 or 26. Look at players like Adebayor, Drogba, Kießling, and others. Part of the reason is that the Dutch league is weaker than other top European leagues, though it is a great place to develop. I expect that if Jozy moves, he will take another season to develop.

It'd be nice if he actually got more playing time with the US squad. If we are throwing people into the fire. Why not throw Jozy into the fire. If other people can make mistakes and cost goals. Why can't he play up top.

And Jozy's season at Hull was amazing for his development. I caught most Hull games that season, and he really developed an ability to play with his back toward goal. I remember against Chelsea, he drew a yellow card against Terry and Carvalho should have had a yellow card for a borderline challenge that was deemed legal.
Jozy can be the lynchpin of this side, but we have to find ways of getting him the ball. He kept drifting to the left last night, which was annoying because he can physically compete with Kompany in a way most other strikers can't.

Jozy's goal against Spain in the Confed. Cup is a good example. He destroyed besquets or ramos. I can't remember which.

I really think Dempsey has been doing a terrible job at giving him the ball, so much so that Jozy has to drift to either side to get service from the wings.

He also plays in a nice attacking system in Holland and has a player like Adam Maher supplying him... and yes, sub standard defenses...

I think the service to him will improve after Stu gets healthy. Our offensive midfielders are all dribble-first instead of pass-first with the possible exception of Zusi.

The problem with Altidore with the USMNT...is the formation.
How long have we used Altidore as a lone striker? Even, Bradley did it. Dempsey as a CAM doesn't help Altidore. Demps drifts pretty far back. When he would pair someone up with him. He would do much better.
If I'm not mistaking he has more service AND AZ plays a 4-3-3 basically. He has more help.

If we insist on keeping Jozy up top all alone, why not put Dempsey on the left and someone else in the middle?
