In England is the premiership more of NFL fan ship or southern college football?
I know some people on this board have stayed/live in europe and I'm curious if the average joe has a club he/she follows or if the majority doesn't
How does it compares to the USA and its sports leagues?

Its a religion to people. With so many games people often plan everything around seeing their club play for nine months.
The only thing remotely close to it in the US is college football.

So I'm guessing if you go to towns in England the majority would follow the local club?
Would you find fans of Chelsea in Blackpool or would the majority be strictly Blackpool supporters?

Pretty much
of course the bigger clubs like United and Liverpool have huge followings all of the country esp in London.
But basically everyone supports their local team. Here its Arsenal, Spurs and West Ham b/c how close my town is to London. The emirates stadium is a stop into London from here by train. The other local teams Peterborough and Cambridge are pretty well supported.
When I lived in Germany basically everyone in my city and the towns with in a 30min radius supporter our club. Of course you have the random Bayern and Dortmund fans.
The game abroad is very tribalistic.

It's an omnipresent part of life, and pervades all. Those that don't like football, bitch and moan and/or ridicule.

Very popular for them, so much that every home game, 10's of thousands dress up like seats for every EPL home game. I always thought it was cool, that so many fans could find the same fabric of Sky Blue, and that had a seat like texture.

Dont you support your small town club, and a top 2 tier club thats close, typically?

so do supporters in smaller towns with historically mediocre clubs usually support a big successful club as well, or predominantly stick to their local club only?

mostly stick with their local team
thats why lower league football is even alive.
The 3rd division in Germany gets great attendance numbers.

Have always wondered how tiny clubs in cities like Manchester and Liverpool get any support. You'd think the whole city would either be red or blue in both cases

Well the blue club in Manchester used to be tiny, so maybe the other small team fans are holding onto that?

London to Manchester train times information. Direct trains run from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly every 20 minutes, and average journey times are around 2 hours 10 minutes. There's an additional option once an hour to change at Warrington Bank Quay - this adds around 20 minutes to average journey times.

Not even close. You can even trickle all the way down to the fourth division of English football and you'll find far more passionate fans than American professional sports fans. You rarely see small town citizens attaching themselves to any of the big clubs. It's all about the local club.

Well it is still pretty small in terms of fans.
Lots of people who supported Stockport or Bolton jumped on the City wagon. But Manchester and its surrounding areas are red by a large margin.

Euston to Liverpool same distance and time pretty much. Euston the morning of a Liverpool match day is pretty crazy. Its nothing but Liverpool fans taking the train up.

This is true as much as I'd like to deny it.
You can see it everywhere too, not just in the Etihad, but at supporter get togethers here in the states or by the traffic on the team's subreddit.
The global brand is growing, but like support locally, the support of City will never surpass that of United.

It may not be professional but American high school football rivals small council local club support. There is a structural difference.
