Is there more to it than players being that much better? How does one score 2 goals in 70 games.

shite teams, poor service, didn't go to to the club that was the best fit.

I can’t imagine the blow to his confidence after that. With the seasons he’s had in The Netherlands, there’s no doubt he can play.

Maybe you could blame the American mindset at the time that England was where you needed to go.

its pretty much as simple as that. even world class players will struggle to score at Hull City and Sunderland playing with their back to the goal

Combination of things.

He was never going to be great, but he should have been much better.

Technically, he's not good enough. He also is not always tough or physical enough for the English game.

He got poor service - there were a decent number of times that I saw him create space and the pass never came. Part of that is his teammates not having confidence in him. Part of that is having shite teammates.

Like most things, it not one thing.

But he was never going to be a 20 goal a season striker in the Premier League.

I think Jozy is an example of a player that overachieved with his talent. It just happened so young that we expected more from him.

I just picked a random game that he started for Hull (he was often a sub for them). His wingers combined for 100+ premier league appearances. They also combined for less than 10 goals.

This. I think that in the one or two matches he played with Villarreal, he almost scored once.

Robert Pirés said it was a good thing he didn´t (it would be have expected of him every match by the fans).

He was soon loaned out to a second division side or to an English club. Don´t remember exactly.

We didn’t do him any favors at Sunderland.

With that said he missed quite a few EASY chances fairly early in his career. Got in his head and then fans kinda got on him as he continued to frick up.

Then we traded him for Defoe straight up who showed his class with the same shite around him. .

I think Defoe fit the system much better than Jozy.

Yes he really took to the “carry these sorry fricks and even play some left back to ensure safety for a few more years before total implosion “ system swimmingly.

But let’s not kid ourselves. One is Jozy altidore and the other is jermain Defoe. Bit of a difference.

I meant that Defoe is better if left more on an island. Sunderland wasn't really an attacking team. Jozy can be great with hold up play and surrounded with other attackers. It's what he did well with in Toronto and AZ. I think Defoe is a little bit quicker, and better at creating his own shots.

This right here. He has always been a very good athlete but he is not a very technical player. I think the biggest issue with the National Team is that the players don't have very sound technical skills. And I think that is the result of us having lackluster academies compared to Europe.

I'm not saying he's bad or just works in one system.

Jozy isn’t even in the same conversation as Defoe when discussing strikers
