Hillsborough disaster, how did this happen?

Police didn't know what they were doing. Allowed way to many people into stadium under their watch. something of that sort.

I think it's difficult for most of us as Americans to understand the culture of the gated SRO sections so the whole concept is very foreign. That's piece A and piece B is the colossal frick up of a cop Duckenfield was

Too many people were let into one end of the stadium until people were pressing against other people. There was a high iron fence across that end of the stadium. A crush developed. People were pressed against each other and the stadium to such a degree that many were asphyxiated because they could not breathe. It took a while to realize the seriousness of the situation and open some gates to allow people to spill out from the crush zone.

Yes, it should not have happened. Poor planning and decision making on behalf of authorities combined with a fervent interest to see that match to create the disaster that unfolded. People were pressed against one another for a while; it took quite some time for people to asphyxiate. Failure to respond to the crisis in a timely manner was disastrous.

Too many people were let in. For some reason a cop opened a section that is used for exiting. Fans go in, don't notice people at the front are getting crushed.
On top of that, more lives could have been saved supposedly. Cops also made up that the fans were kicking and spitting on them while trying to help. Which was complete bullshite. Blamed in on rowdy Liverpool fans.
Well they fricked with the wrong people. Just persons in the media making a joke about it lost their jobs. Liverpool fans went after everyone. And Won.

They also had a crush there multiple times before. They knew it would happen. It went ignored.

It was planned for in advance. Hell, this wasn't the first crush incident at that stadium in the exact same area - just the one where people died.
The police even had a name for the manuever to keep people from heading into that pen.
Duckenfield had no reason or experience to be appointed to commander for the match, and didn't do any real prep work for it. He was only concerned with fan behavior.
