They were completely outplayed.
England is like Alabama. They are never outplayed.

England 1-25 on crosses. Of course the one good cross was the goal.
David Moyes is impressed.

Did she say "you forced Italy to play a fantastic game"?

It's pretty tense around all the bars

It was completely empty at the one I was at. I left at halftime.
ETA: We were so close to two magnificent goals (Swag's chip at the end of the first half and Pirlo's free kick).

Honestly the liverpool contingent was the only part of their team I rated today..
they all look unfit/unready for these conditions though

It beggars belief that England can't break teams down. With that roster you should be able to, but they can only play on the break. It's hard to do, as it requires spacing and movement, things which England refused to do at all times today. Amazing to me.

Yes.

English sports talk is amazing during the World Cup. In 2010 it was like listening to the British version of the Paul Finebuam show.

Just curious, I thought I saw you referring to the Italian NT as "we"

Ah yeah sorry I forgot to qualify that with subtracting Gerrard. He was awful.
Glen at least seemed fit enough to keep going but yeah not the best performance from him either.

It's too bad the ESPN booth deprives us all from seeing his brown shoes though.
OH YUCK
You can see them now! That looks terrible.

As someone who is passionate about soccer and been following for only a couple years now... What is keeping England from being elite? When you look at their roster it's essentially stacked
A lot of their players are overrated. Still solid players, but not great or elite like some people think they are.
And they have a younger roster than we typically see. And even though some of those guys are really exciting and athletic and all that, they still make a good bit of mistakes.
That said, I think England has a lot of really good young players coming up right now. Sterling, Sturridge, Barkley, Welbeck, Henderson, Ox, Shaw, etc. And i think Sterling, Sturridge and Barkley have the opportunity to be really really really good.
I still think Italy and England both get out of the group though... especially from what we saw from Uruguay today. Costa Rica looked good and all but I think England gets 3pts vs them.

Sterling and Sturridge were definitely the two best players for England today.

Don't think so...
I think Shearer might be drunk. 'Italy had their captain and their goalkeeper both out injured, we had our full team'

First half was a cripple fight between him and Chiellini. Second involved some funny runs at five defenders and crosses to nobody.

No England young player is going to fix England's sytemic problem of being unable to break down a solid defense. Their attacking ideas after they went down 2-1 was to dribble into trouble or cross aimlessly. And it was the young players doing it. They need a young attacking coach who will teach the players how to move and make space for one another. Otherwise they are going to continue to lose in major tournaments.
