I'd still take both Alves and Marcelo, more so Alves, to provide a huge spark on attack. But Luiz is incredibly overrated, I actually consider him a liability.
BTW how is Italy's back 4? Historically they have always been the best back 4 in the business, but I understand they are breaking in 3 young/new faces for the tournament?

Brazil also has Filipe Luis and Miranda who are incredible defenders that were not selected to the 23 man roster.
Also, Australia is basically playing a home game in terms of the crowd. The Socceroos are supposedly outnumbering the Dutch 5:1.

And who's the best back 4 as a team?
Spain and Germany are also up there, even though Lahm is playing in the MF now. France, Italy, England, and Belgium are probably the next tier.

The best left back in the world isn't in this tournament and the best right back is playing defensive mid.

All but Silva are wildly overrated, especially as defenders.
Marcelo is excellent. He is the world's best LB, despite it being the thinnest position. Great two-way player, but also an idiot.
Everyone knows Alves does not defend.

With Ramos and Pique as the center backs I wouldn't put them in the conversation as best back 4 in the world.

Devastated by injuries. They've got Chiellini playing as an attacking fullback.

Agreed on the attacking front, but Alves is useless as a defender.

Absolutely agreed. I have no idea how Silva stays sane playing for Brasil with the Three Stooges in defense and Cesar in goal.

Who's your best left back candidate?
Posted on 6/18/14 at 11:43 am to ATLienTiger
Jeez. I wasn't really expecting australia to put up this kind of a fight. They seem to be controlling the game since I started watching 10 min ago.

Should we start a new thread for those that just want to chat about the current game?
