I figured this would be a decent place to get some info. My wife and I are heading over to Europe in January, and we want to catch a Premier League match while we're there. I know most teams won't put tickets on sale until closer to the match.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the best way to get tickets? Should I wait until Match Day or try to find something earlier? Is there an official secondary ticket site that I should try to work through?

Thanks in advance!

Go through the team website

Most the big clubs require a membership but for small clubs and less desirable matches you can get single matches tickets right off the website

Don’t wait right until match day unless the club says their are still matches day sales at the stadium

As far as secondary sites there really isn’t any

Some clubs work with stub hub and viagogo for hospitality seats

Sites like livefoootball tickets often charge 4 to 5 times face value and they don’t actually have the tickets. You pay them to find you one

Often tickets purchased from secondary sites get reject at the gates bc they are black listed

Also that time of year you are out there the FA Cup will be in the ealier rounds. You might be able to snag tickets.

That's good to know! We went ahead and signed up for the membership just in case, but wasn't sure if there was anything else we could do. I appreciate the help.

I am traveling to London next week and decided to take a chance on secondary market tickets. I bought a pair for Arsenal v. Burnley on the 17th from Stubhub. They will not deliver the tickets internationally, so I am having them delivered to my hotel a few days before. I coordinated with the hotel and this appears to be a common occurrence to them. I bought the tickets last Friday, and not gonna lie, it was pretty expensive, but I figured this is a once in a lifetime experience.
One strange thing is that I will have to return the tickets after. I am assuming that the tickets are used for multiple games, but not sure why?
I have a co-worker that was a season ticket holder for Arsenal before he moved here and he suggested Stubhub. He said the low level membership with the clubs have very few tickets released for each game, and if traveling for only one game, your odds are not very good.
I'm happy to report back after and let you know how it goes.

ETA,I have seen the warnings about buying secondary tickets, but was still willing to take the chance. I figured charging to Stubhub on my CC, I would have some sort of recourse if things didn't work out.

On the other hand, if there are any Arsenal fans that could give some advice on game day things to do/see. I am a casual fan at best, but I thought this was something that I may never get another chance to experience. Oh, and I am also traveling with my teenage child, so any suggestions that are appropriate would be appreciated.

1. You made a WISE choice. The driveman is A fellow Gooner . Whrn the Saints played in London a few year ago Arsenal played that same Sunday. But we had to see a game. We pick Old Trafford for United vs Palace and some people advised looking on twitter for tickets.

LONG story short. Find a guy and vet him for like a month. Paid half, he sent me his two season ticket cards. I paid him when I got in and sent them back to him the next day. Amazing SEATS midway up the Stretford end.

You could also potentially be witnessing the START of a new ERA of Arsenal Football club as we just inked Pepe for a record transfer fee

Yep

The ticket system in the UK is designed to protect the fans and kill off touts and the inflated secondary market

Please do! I'm curious as to how the returning will work, but if it's a normal occurrence for the hotel, then it's definitely something I'll look into.

Update to Wu

I received the tickets at the hotel yesterday. Two rfid cards with printed instructions on how to use them, exact seats and a contact for any questions. He included a self addressed stamped envelop for the return as well.

All looks legit so far. I'll let you know if I actually get into the stadium on Saturday.

Wow I'm going to London during the season and was going to try and catch a Chelsea game, didn't know it was going to be this difficult.

Final update. All went well. Great experience, just need to mail the cards back to get my deposit refunded, which was about $60, I think.

Definitely might look to go this path if I have to. Hope you had a great time at the match!

This is who we were hoping to see, but not sure if it's going to happen because of how difficult it might be to get tickets. We've talked about going to another London team (Crystal Palace or QPR), but wife isn't as excited about those two.

If you find yourself in Manchester, try to catch a City match. I’ve heard they give tickets away just to try to fill up the Council House.

The English don´t play in Europe. They play on the island.
