It looks like Geoff Cameron will play centerback for us. Klinsmann prefers Cameron in a central role, be it as a defender or a defensive midfielder. This is why there are about five potential rightbacks called into the preliminary roster.
Deandre Yedlin
Michael Parkhurst
Brad Evans
Fabian Johnson plays RB for Hoffenheim
Timmy Chandler
No manager would call in that many players from one position to a preliminary roster if he thought that the rest of the roster wasn't already solid. Three of those guys listed above will probably get cut.
I think it might just be two. Yedlin will be cut and one of Brad Evans or Parkhurst.
I really hope you're right about Cameron playing CB. He thinks it's his best position and he is a massive upgrade over Gonzalez, IMO.

Gonzales's errors are well known, but he's not as bad as people say.
Ehhhhhh. I'm worried that Gonzalez will cost us goals with his horrible ball watching.
Here he loses his mark on the first goal against Mexico.
Ball watching on the second goal against Mexico.
Ball watching on the winning goal against Honduras
Not entirely his fault, but he sort of just stands around in no man's land for the first Honduras goal from that game.

Aguedelo didn't score in Holland.
3 goals and 3 assists

That's horrible considering what Bacon and Jozy did.

He'll play LB for us.

Yeah Johnson will play leftback but it's more of a commentary on this hack writer's assertion that this team lacks depth.

I'm going to guess Alexi Lalas. He's negative about everything.

I like to bang on Juan as well, but he came in halfway through a campaign of the 10th best team. He wasn't as good as Jozy and Bacon, but it's not horrible in 14 apps, which I'd assume was a lot of sub time early.

I hope Cameron takes the CB spot.
Could still see Jurgen sitting Landon, playing Fabian at LM, Chandler at LB, and needing Cameron at RB.
Seems truly open at this point. I'm ready.

So that means Omar is a starting central defender
If CHandler is good enough to start, I really hope he is our right back, so we can put him and Johnson as the fullbacks and Besler/Cameron in central defense. That's really the only way we can have an acceptable defense. If Chandler isn't good or creates problems, then we're really kind of screwed, and we will have to use one sub-par defender, whether it is Beasley at LB, Omar or Goodsen at CB, or just a makeshift RB like Evans or Parkhurst.
I have no faith in Yedlin for 2014. If someone can convince me otherwise, that would be awesome.

If Geoff Cameron is paired with Besler, then I think I would be most interested in Evans or maybe Timmy Chandler because I prefer Evans over Parkhurst and I think Yedlin is too green.

Man, if only we had Subotic and could play Cameron at RB...
Posted on 5/21/14 at 1:20 pm to Joe Blow
nah, he's very, very pro-MLS. and he thinks Bradley could play for Barca, Real, ManU, etc.

yeah, yedlin can't handle Reus, Drax, CR7, etc. i might go Chandler just because i think pace will be at a premium. that said, i haven't seen him play in awhile. evans and parkhurst just seem like the epitome of meh to me. guess i'd rather us take a little bigger swing at it. i wouldn't be displeased if yedlin made it as a sub though, especially if we go with one of parkhurst and evans as our main RB.

I think he just likes to start shite. At his core, he seems pretty negative

Saw it on twitter again today that Jurgy reiterated that he still thinks CB is Cameron's best position
Posted on 5/21/14 at 2:27 pm to joey barton
in that same vein, he isn't the kind of person who would anonymously comment on something.

Yeah, Alexi ain't one to hide his light under a bushel, he would have no problem having his name linked to those statements. Hell, he says worse on live TV during pre-game and matches.
It's most likely someone who was a favorite of Bob Bradley's and has now fallen out of favor with Klinsmann.

I think 2002 was the best " Team " because they proved they could play together and was very close to a semi final.
But this team has a chance to be great, and still not advance because of the draw, though I think the heat and having Germany for game 3 is to our advantage.
The 2 center backs still worry me.
