I think removing Qatar's bid for '22 is the bargaining chip that will ultimately keep FIFA whole. UEFA is pretty furious about the idea of a winter (northern hemisphere) WC, a WC bought through corrupt bribes.
"2022 Untied States of America" sounds pretty good.

As much as I hate to say it, I would think we would not put in a bid if 2022 re-opens. It would bring an onslaught of accusations about the arrests being retaliation for losing the bid. Putin already made comments stating that, but I think it would be a louder call if we got the 2022 World Cup. Although, I'm all for saying "frick you, we would have won it in the first place if the corruption wasn't there" and going for it.

I'm not sure that will be the end game either, for the exact reasons you listed.
I dont think that having the WC in the USA is as unappetizing to the rest of the major players in world football as some may think. There seems to be a sense of relief that the US has moved to "fix" FIFA.
You have to think some of Putin's rhetoric is directed at keeping his 2018 bid. There has been a lot of defensive and reactive comments coming from Russia since this blew up. "The lady doth protest too much, methinks" seems apt when looking at Russia and I wouldnt be surprised to see solid evidence of Russian corruption in regards to its bid come to light.

You're absolutely right. I'm not saying Putin is right. I don't think our DOJ is worried enough about soccer to risk this blowing up in their face for being a corrupt or politically charged action. You're probably right that most of the world would be okay with it going to us, if only because anything is better than Qatar. We were second in the voting process too.

Personally, I think give 2022 to England. They've waited a long time for it to come back to them.
Then let 2026 come to us.
Then send 2030 to Australia.
3 English speaking countries in a row for the win.

I would hope we would not. Football is so huge worldwide that this would have much larger political ramifications than simply soccer.
Of course, I am skeptical that anyone in our government has enough sense to know this.

2030 is going to Uruguay.

The Euros want the 2022 WC in the US because it will keep their league schedules intact. Even South America will be on board with that, provided they host the 2030 which seems to be the rumor anyway. No one is going to touch 2018 WC. The geopolitical ramifications are not worth it.

I agree. Australia is a logical choice to host.

But I can't stay up that late/get up that early! We took down the Nazis and FIFA. 2022 is ours.

I think at this point, if it goes anywhere, it goes to a country who won't have to build much...considering they will likely have to pay Qatar at least something for all the worthless buildings.
Assuming Russia keeps 2018, you would think that is has to be away from Europe. That leaves Australia and the US likely. That or someplace in Asia....like a Korea/Japan bid again.

Putin is just being Putin
Everyone knows corruption and bribery is just Russians do business. Him and his friends will be getting kick backs on all the construction like Sochi.
He knows lots of people do not want to travel to Russia for the WC.

I'd put it at a 90% chance that 2018 is in Russia. Simply from a political point of view, it just isn't worth it to try and take it away. 2022 on the other hand, I'd put it at about 50/50.

The Russian bid is directly tied to Qatar, both were buying votes in a package deal per say. Saying if you get your friends to vote for us we will get ours to vote for you.
People won't be traveling to Russia in large numbers from the west just like Sochi. They will be giving tickets away to locals.

I could see them waiting and waiting, so they can claim they don't have a choice but to give it to USA.
Unlike many of these countries, the USA doesn't need to build a thing, they already have top class Stadiums, more than enough to hold it. Actually u would have Cities bidding to hold it, because there are too many places to hold it.

Australia's part of Asia's federation.

Zero chance since UEFA had it back in 2006. CONCACAF, nor AFC or Ocenia, have had it in more than a decade. It would likely be a country from one of those if I had to guess.

2018 is UEFA's WC
Will never get it as much as UEFA just look at the WC location history. The only CONCACAF countries that could host are US, and Mexico. Canada is a stretch. Africa only South Africa so Africa is out for a while. Asia Korea/Japan bid or Australia. UEFA will always be the main player in getting WC's
