I just bought this game and wow it's pretty tough! I haven't played in about 6 years so there is a rather large learning curve for me.

How does one start a season say in the BPL? I don't want to play other people just yet, just me against the computer.

Start manager mode.

Play a couple of exhibition games and give it a whirl. You'll pick up on it pretty quick. The game plays pretty well out of the box but once you get the basics down try some good sliders. I'm using Orion's from operationsports and I like them. I tweaked them a bit since I don't have time for 15 minute halves but they're great.

5 min halves usually at most for me.. but then again I spend a ton of my time on formation tweaking etc

Lots of folks on OS do. I will play 10 every once in a while. I've tried 15 but I just can't hang in there that long.

Pardon the ignorance, but what is a slider?

I played for several(5 or 6) hours yesterday and could already tell I was getting better. Defense is way harder than I thought it would be. I've read a bunch of stuff online and done the skills practices and that has helped a ton. Can't wait to get home and play some more.

I play 10 on slow speed. With the correct sliders, you can get a more realistic set of game stats (shots, passes, fouls, etc.)

Was pounding some Chick Fil A in the Student Center after I left the AU game on Saturday perusing the Plainsmen while watching the end of the game and saw some of your stuff in there. CSB

I really enjoy it when I do play 10 or 15 minute games for just that reason. It just makes me 100x more pissed off if I lose. I hate spending an hour on one game only to lose

I would just hate to spend so much time on one match when a season has about 50 matches or you get the same amount of coins etc

Ok, I can't score for shite. I'm never able to get a clean shot off. Any tips for 1st time players on getting shots off? I'm getting the hang of defense, I usually don't get scored on now and end up in penalty kicks to decide a game. Frustrated!

Yup. I swapped my pass control (I think that's what it is called...whichever helps with direction) from auto to assist as well. That helped tremendously with through balls. I was having problems with players not staying in motion for passes. I would pass from Silva to Aguero and the ball would go STRAIGHT to the defender a step or two behind Aguero. Once I changed those 2 options I can now pass and get the ball to hit Aguero in stride. Like I said, you have to be a little more careful and accurate with the sticks but once you get the hang of it it is pretty easy.

Just to follow up on my PC post from last night...

If you have a machine that will handle it, the PC version is so worth it. I FLY through load screens. On the 360, I was really getting annoyed with the clunky menus...not on PC. Swapping players in your lineup is instant. The gameplay is smooth as silk. Graphics are great.

I got a couple packs from Moddingway that made it even better. This one helps with the coloring. I have one that redoes the ad boards for 'realistic ads' (not necessary but why not), one that makes the clock/score graphics league specific, and one that improves the pitch texture.

I wasn't going to get it on PC this year because I wasn't big on 13 for PC. A friend got it for me though and I love it. Totally different game from the 360 version.
