What are the chances that Everton takes a step up in the soccer hierarchy with new money from our new sugar daddy?

Probably enhances the annual top-4/european places target.

I think they could consistently challenge for the Champions League with the right purchases. I mean, look at Leicester.

I don't think Everton can ever afford to waste money like City and United but I do believe they can be a perennial CL challenging team with smart spending along the lines of Arsenal.

An aberration to the model. We will see when their most important player, Kante misses the next two matches. No one will have them in the top 4 to begin next season,.

EPL Owner List

If this list is accurate, Everton went from 18th to 10th. Right in front of Liverpool

God just goes to show how unbelievably poorly Newcastle and Sunderland have been run recently. Huge grounds, decent academies ultra rich owners....18 and 19

no.

They're where they are because the league, as a whole, is down. City has been hammered by injury and looking forward to Pep. Arsenal has had injuries. Pool had a shite start. United is shite. Chelsea imploded. They bomb it down to Vardy and he shoots. They don't play near the game Tottenham plays. Lots of luck, lots of rest, and good fortunes with the rest of the league being meh. The teams that would challenge them are stretched thin and/or down.

On top of that, we're talking about one season. They aren't playing Europa/CL football. They've been fortunate with injuries. I'm not jumping on the wagon just yet.

I guess I should clarify.

Leicester is proving that the league is as wide open as ever, especially with the new TV money for those who stay up. Yeah, the league powers are all somewhat down this year, but let's not act like the gap is as big as it always has been. Everton, Southampton and now Leicester have been able to fight their way into the running for European places the last several seasons.

Smart investment for Everton will help them stick in the top half of a table that isn't as locked in as it once was.

This is where I could see Everton. Not an out and out title perennial title contender but a noise maker.

True, but it's not like they went and bought their current squad. The money is there but they haven't really used it.

Even then, a rising tide lifts all ships. Your traditional powers + city will be getting more as well. They still will have to play nice with FFP (frick FFP but regardless). City, and to a lesser extent Chelsea, have done a fricking GREAT job expanding their brand. For Chelsea it wasn't bad because they haven't historically been shite...plus London. City has grown a ton and, love em or hate em, you can't deny the work they've done expanding the international fan base through their social media presence and fan interaction. NYCFC, Melbourne, and the coming China club....that's establishing the club. The academy. The new medical research facility. That's shite that really grows a club. Teams like Everton and Leicester, they don't have that. Even with the new money they can't get there as quick. If they're smart they'll invest in the club rather than blowing it all in the transfer market. IF they do that it'll pay off.

Wait, so you are saying with this new influx of financial resources Everton can aspire to reach the level of Southampton and Leicester?

Pretty much. Not historically but now. Leicester in regards to what we see now, a team taking advantage of a down traditional 4. Southampton in terms of "good talent and shite, can they contend for top 4" like they did for a few years.

Everton could be good but they have a tough road. The TV money is overrated in this sense since everyone I will benefit. Even with this change they'll STILL have to fight City, Chelsea, pool, arsenal, and tottenham for a spot at the table. City and Chelsea built big without FFP. They also both got "frick you" money. Everton isn't getting that.

ETA: The money from the TV deal will help with retention more than transfers. The market is already absurd. Being an English club doesn't help them, ESPECIALLY in regards to English players. They'll now have money to keep players happy though. In my opinion that can be better than having big transfer budgets.

IMO Everton is already better than a Southampton or Leicester. Leicester is something of an unknown. This is a team that was in the Championship just a couple of years ago and narrowly missed being relegated last year. I will need to see more before I presume they are anything more than a Blackburn from the 1990s. I love the story and they are a pure Cinderella team right now but I am very interested to see how they do next season.

Southampton is a club that has worked to establish itself as a top 10 or so club. Everton has had a couple of off years now but they have usually been a top 10 club for many years. I don't see how Everton is below the level of a Leicester or a Southampton when you look at the club beyond the immediate time and take into account its performance for its recent past.

When you look at the club and its place beyond just this year, Everton has been a club on a different level from those two. In fact, I would argue that clubs like Southampton and Leicester could have goals of being on the level of an Everton. Because until the past few years, those clubs were not even in the top flight or were scratching to remain in it while Everton was pretty much a lock for the top half of the table.

What an awful overview of the league

City are looking forward to pep along with injuries so that's why y'all suck? Give me a break United have even more injuries and are only three points behind while playing the kids. But United in your eyes are just shite. Pool just isn't good it didn't come down to a bad start. Arsenal injury wise isn't as bad as usual. They are just bottling it right now.

They play outstanding defensively and are deadly on the counter. It's almost like you don't even watch them and just spit out nonsense.

Talk about bitterness. Maybe if your team didn't spend 120 million on just three players you would have more depth or if your academy was worth a shite.

Chelsea have done a better job in terms of growing their fan base world wide. City have done a great job growing their brand commercially but they still lack the fan base home and abroad. Don't tell me you believe the City claim they have 10 million fans in the UK alone, when the country only hase 60 million people . Let's not kid ourselves and the match day revenue proves that bc you are way behind. Once Liverpool finish their ground expansion and Spurs get their new one. City will be behind those two along with United, Chelsea, and Arsenal. This is why top four for city is crucial in terms on revenue bc City can't make it up organically. There is only so many Middle East sponsor deals they can do.

The better you are in the league the more you are on tv and the more money you get. United and Liverpool even when they suck get loads of tv money bc they draw viewers in any competition. City just don't, there is a reason every United FA cup match the last like 12 years has been on tv.

Dude, have you watched many Leicester games because you sound completely misinformed. Their style of play is as exciting as any team in Europe right now. You make it sound like they're Stoke from years past hoofing it upfield and just happen to be eeking out results. They have flipped the league on its head dude. They are 2 points clear at the top of the table with 11 games to go. What they are doing is unprecedented, like literally unprecedented. It's never been done by a club like Leicester this deep into a campaign. And they are a really likable group who have real chemistry and are playing for each other and their fans. You sound like an unhappy douche.

ETA And are you really really pointing out Spurs as the team that's going to catch them and maintain their current form when it's really nut cutting time. Sure, they're playing great right now. Are you aware of their history during the years where they have had a shot to be in the running for a title, much less the top 4, this late in the season. It's not pretty. They're a punchline dude. I will admit that this squad and this manager seems different but still, they are Spurs.
