Well I wouldn't argue with you there. Though some club matches have good attendance, it just depends on which teams are playing.

I'm not arguing that soccer isn't bigger cause it is. I'm just saying that rugby does have an international game. It's growing in popularity in other countries as well. Japan has good crowds for their matches last month against Wales

I'm saying that the growth of soccer in the U.S. over sports like Rugby and Cricket is because the international market in soccer is much, much bigger. If market didn't exist then the MLS probably wouldn't have grown at the rate it did.

I'm definitely not saying rugby doesn't have an international appeal. But when was the last time a Rugby player sold for $100 million? Soccer has just so much money in the game that it makes growth easier for upstart leagues, like MLS, the Japanese league, the Korean league, and the Austrailian league, all of which have grown into big-ish leagues in the last 20 years.

So since this ThreadIs now on the soccer board, does that mean all of these people have officially posted here?

Poor guys, worried that soccer is going to put all the other leagues out of business.

There is this irrational fear among non soccer fans on TD that soccer will become more popular than whatever sport they follow. I'm not sure why these things are threatening to them. Probably lack of brain cells to rationally think through the process.

Ignorance and fear sometimes go together.

Yeah I don't get it. It's just a sport. Maybe because it is not an American sport? It's mostly silly. Maybe it's because soccer fans are obnoxious or something, but in general I think we are the most level headed posters on TD.

lol at soccer ever being the 2nd biggest sport in this country...

Go spend some time in England, Scotland, etc and look at the trash that follows that sport...

It is somehow amazing the only thing worse than this sport is Chavs in Europe who follow it or the "oh look I am cool i have a soccer jersey" US teenagers that follows that crap sport...

Just another ESPN article promoting their sport they are trying to shove down our throat...

The fact that sports such as rugby, Aussie Rules, etc are not shown more is just another sign in the pussification of the US...

What the hell is this guy talking about?

Where as I agree with you ...

I did hard when I read that because some of the shite I have read on this board. We are either the most level headed or full blown retard, not much in between there though.

Obviously true, but don't even dare trying to say this on the other boards. Only ignorance will follow.

As far as discussing soccer, I much prefer this board to reddit or bigsoccer.

I don't use the others, but I am subscribed to r/soccer. I don't post there though.

It's not a bad board. Just large. Great for news and perspective.

Well I did mention a decline in baseball. I think soccer is hurting them some but it's very minor. We pretty much have an ADD society and baseball games are just too long. Also, I think the shrinking number of big name American players hurts some.

I think the strike hurt baseball. It allowed football and basketball to catch up. But in terms of attendance, baseball seems to be doing fine. Still averaging around 30,000 a game.

I don't think soccer will ever displace any of the top 3 sports. But it doesn't need to to be successful.

Oh no doubt. This country is so big though I don't think it has to overtake any sport to do well.

This. Good god that subreddit is among the worst there is. The herd mentality is flat out nauseating. Opinions are not welcome there.
