This was really the first World Cup I had watched and after this I started to follow the USMNT. My aforementioned friends were all soccer players in high school and lured me into watching with drinking all night.

same for me. me and my brother stayed up all night for those games and since then following the USMNT has become my most passionate rooting interest besides LSU football. I live and die with LSU Football and USMNT and i wouldn't have it any other way.

A few thoughts/memories I have from this game:
5. This game really helped us make a name for ourselves, and it showed that the win over Portugal may not have been a fluke.
4. Brad Friedel really stepped it up this game. In spite of the fact that we conceded 7 goals, he had a great tournament.
3. This game is where I developed my hatred of Rafael Márquez and Cuauhtémoc Blanco, a hatred which still exists more than 10 years later.
2. This was one of our greatest wins of all time.

I really do think this was the game that ignited the rivalry. I think it was our establishment for the progress weve had for the past 10 years

great world cup memories. trying to stay up late for the 12 00 and 2 30 games and then trying to wake up for the 530 shite was awesome. i will never forget that (except for possibly the times

One thing that was kind of annoying was that it was hard to watch all the games. It's not like most world cups when I could just watch all the games straight through. I pretty much had to watch what I could and then catch the replays on television, but it was pretty damn difficult to just completely tune out the score.
To be fair, us hosting the World Cup would make pretty inconvenient times for everyone else.
