He'll be able to give us valuable insight to Brad Davis' contribution.

If his contributions include anything other than fist-pumping from the bench after a bunch of Jozy golazos, we are fricked.

This is weird to me.

How is he going to react on camera to us winning the World Cup without him?

If I was on the team we would have won two world cups this year?

He would probably go all philosophical. "I'm really at the point in my career where I realize life is bigger than soccer. I'm just glad I could contribute by being here with you, Alexi. Serenity now."

Donovan has the personality of a brick.

He is very monotonic but he is more revealing with his comments to the media than any other high-profile athlete in American sports.

He's on air and just refuted Klinsmann's claims about winning the World Cup.

He said, if our players think they can beat a favorite in Germany, why can't we see ourselves wining the whole thing.

Boy they are really milking that fake controversy for all it's worth. Pretty low of Donovan to play into something he knows is bullshite. Or maybe he doesn't realize that beating Germany once in the group stage isn't the same as doing it 4 times in a row against that level of competition.

I think its a mountain/mole hill thing. Watching the preview just now on ESPN. It was pretty clear that Klinsman is trying to get his team to focus on the group. Then focus on the knock-outs and keep moving that focus as the team progresses. Hell, he even said as much while following up and providing context to the questions about the december comment.

I think the message is being lost in the "translation" a little here. Lets be honest here as well, expecting the US to win a world Cup is much different than believing they can win a world cup. Seems like thats the angle being taken. Jurgen haters are going to see the comments in the worst possible light and overreact per usual.

Yea it's really absurd. They played klinsman's quotes earlier, and he didn't at all say "we can't win." He said we aren't the type of team, especially with our group, who should come into a World Cup with a win or bust mentality. He also said if we make it out of the group then you reevaluate your goals.

I mean you don't see coaches of 13 and 14 seeds in the NCAA tournament talking about winning the whole thing. The premise that all American sports and coaches think they can win anything is absurd

Yep... and then Alexi Lalas throws a big hissy fit, like he always does, about that and says "Klinnsmann is the biggest star on the team and thats how he wants it". Annoys me that the only thing you hear about the US team the past few weeks is how LD was left off and then Klinnsmanns' statement, which the media has changed. Dont hear anything about the players that are there.

This is pretty funny coming from old Red.

Im kind of done with Lalas to be honest. Just about the only thing Im not looking forward to watching this World Cup is listening to Lalas before at half and after every match and the wind up show every night.

Well, they do recycle Dempsey's life story. I guess none of our other players really have had a hard life story that the media can latch onto.
