Does a loss today destroy US soccer?

And how much does ESPN stand to lose in World Cup advertizing money if the US isn't involved in the World Cup?

We can still advance with a loss, it's just less likely. ESPN would be pissed, but they'd still make some good money off of the WC.

FIFA needs the USA in the World Cup. It would be huge if we lost.

Yeah, we must qualify. To not would be devastating to soccer growth in America.

No, might destroy this board, though

No it wouldn't destroy it but maybe it would give us a wake up call. We need to develop players with better technical skills and a change at the top will surely follow and that couldn't hurt.

So what all needs to happen for us to qualify? What are the scenarios?

Win or Draw assures advancing to the hexagonal. A loss and we need some help.

Win or draw, we qualify for the next round.
Jamaica loss and we qualify.
Loss, it comes down to goal differential if Jamaica wins.

Believe Jamaica is even in GD and the US is +3 currently.
ETA: Obviously that can and likely will change tonight, just wanted to give some perspective as to where everyone currently stands.

Yeah I can see if we lose by 1 goal, and Jamaica beats Antigua by 2 or more. Wonder who has more goals scored, that is probably next tie break I would think.

If we lose 1-0 and Jamaica win 2-0 we'd still advance,we currently have 8 goals scored to their 5, so we'd still go through.

It would be horrible if Jamaica wins which they most likely will. However my guess is they play for a tie Guatemala has never advanced to WC and USA as you pointed out can't afford to lose so it'll probably be a slow slogging nil nil game. Thoughts?

I think USA concedes a cheap goal. It very well could be nail biting with Jamaica beating Antigua and us hanging close to Guatemala.

Could happen our team has been very unmotivated lately particularly in the first half

If we lose I might die of alcohol poisoning

We are going to be playing in a great atmosphere on a great pitch. We are going to take it to them hard in the first 20 minutes.

if it leads to not qualifying for the hex, then yes. i actually think it would literally just completely frick up US soccer. not gonna happen though, so it's all good.

Well you were off by 10 but we took it hard between 10 and 30 minutes
