Daryl Dike

On a scale of 1 to I’m changing his name to Didier Dike, how excited should USMNT team fans be about Daryl Dike? Currently has 8 goals in 14 games for Barnsley. He’s a 20 year old physically dominating the English championship over a very small sample size. Where he’s playing next season might be the biggest story for the men’s team leading in to the 2022 World Cup. An in form target forward like Dike with pulisic and Reyna would make for the best American attacking front at a World Cup by a mile (yes, I’m assuming we qualify)

Being an OCSC fan I’ve watched him play a lot last year, and I’ve watched a couple Barnsley games since he’s been there, and I really think it’s not a fluke/hot streak. We play such a different style than Barnsley and he was extremely successful in MLS last season that it shows he is good and it’s not a system thing. The kid is big and strong, but also has great skill with the ball at his feet and absurd finishing.
Orlando City should run a 4-3-3 again, which is what the USMNT would probably run in an ideal 11. Nani, Mueller, and Pereya feeding him actually is a pretty decent analogy to Pulisic, Weah (?), and Reyna feeding him on an ideal USMNT 11.

Don't let Jozy find out you said that about a black soccer player

I will riot if Dike goes back to Orlando... no way in hell that happens.

I would love to see him come for a few months then transfer after the summer, but that will be a lot of soccer so doubt it happens. Unfortunately you are probably right he won’t be back.

His goal conversion rate vs his expected goals is just insane.

Where are you seeing this?
I imagine it's pretty good just because Barnsley can't be creating that many goal opportunities for him.

I need to scroll back through the us soccer subreddit to find the stats

The best for Dike and the USMNT would be at a club that will continue to challenge him. But, he needs to play. If he does get a job in one of the top leagues, I just hope it is at a club that will use him routinely.

That’s also my fear. The club able and willing to pay Orlando’s fee is also likely a club with top forwards and looking for Dike to provide depth or as a late substitute to ice/protect games and find an equalizer out of nothing late.

The rumor is Everton is the team trying to buy him. They have two young strikers, so no idea what his chance of playing time would be or if he has a chance to win a spot there.

He’ll be back in Orlando.
They have valued him at $20 million, which is an absurd number for a guy with his limited track record. They originally valued him to Barnsley at $10 million, which can’t afford that kind of cash on a transfer.
Maybe they can get a PL team to bite, but I’m not seeing it.

If he continues to single handily drag Barnsley to promotion, they'll have to pay up to keep him. They might as well stay in the Championship if they can't keep him lol.

I think they will sell him. His value for Orlando frankly will never be higher and there always risk of injury. His value won’t improve with another year at Orlando as compared to what it is now.

He’ll be back in Orlando.

From a strictly business perspective, IMO Orlando has to sell him if the PL demand is actually there at 10+ million. His value won’t get higher coming back to MLS. In fact, his value only stands to fall if he comes back to MLS and doesn’t continue to light it up.
Selling now would be the epitome of selling high, IMO.

Dike is currently on The Men in Blazers Show.
Can't say I've ever listened to him before or know much about him, but he seems to have a fantastic personality. Appears to be very down to earth and relatable. Just from this interview alone I'll be rooting for the guy.
