P.S. DEANintheYAY, Legion field doesn't really sit 500,000 people and Livestrong is probably the nicest soccer specific stadium in the US. Even moreso, than BBVA Compass. (That is debatable though)

How sweet would it be if they played world cup games in the US in college stadiums. Great tailgating venues and huge stadiums that could fit even more people so more money I would assume.

The US gets incredibly patriotic during WC and OLYs. I honestly think they could fill out every college stadium. The only bad thing is that they aren't major cities. Lodging would be the problem and policing. IMO.

it sucks that the dome structure is the only thing holding back New Orleans. Its a perfect city for world cup matches

Well, they played in the Silver Dome in 94.. it's not like a game couldn't be hosted in a dome. The facts that New Orleans doesn't frequently host international matches and is not an MLS city probably hurt more than the dome.
As for Tiger Stadium, the field is too narrow for a FIFA regulation pitch. Even using the bench areas, I believe that it's still too narrow. It was looked at as a potential site when they first were looking to put in our bid for 2018/2022 (as was the Superdome, btw).

Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, Tampa and Washington, D.C.
Those were the cities part of the world cup bid. The bolded cities don't have MLS franchises. But yes they probably do hold international matches, but that is because they are not limited by domed structures. All those venues are open-air stadiums, if New Orleans had an outdoor stadium, I would bet it would have international games played there.

The Silverdome experiment was a disaster. It was a sauna inside. Also, field size is the problem with most college stadiums. I think they had to take out the hedge in Athens for the 1996 Olympics.

College stadiums would be terrible IMO. One, most of the stadiums actually suck dick. I would not want to have an old, decrepit, piss-smelling, stadium with metal bleachers to host World Cup games. We would look like a shite country.
Of course, the logistics would be incredibly difficult, if not impossible. The college towns are way too small and you need to be in major/semi-major cities for shite to do outside of the games itself. Furthermore, there are not nearly enough places to stay.

Artificial turf kills them. It'd never happen. It is why the USMNT never plays in Seattle. But, I'm sure they'd change it for the WC.
